Floyd "Flick" Landry

April 10, 1934 - October 29, 2014

Floyd (Flick) Landry passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 80 years. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Peggy; children, Brian (Debby) Landry, Bruce Landry, Karen (Darcy) Ternes, Scott (Kelly) Landry; grandchildren, Meghan Landry (Brian), Amy and Jenna Ternes (Karen), Cameron Landry (Scott); his siblings, Ward Landry (Palm Desert ,CA), Donalda (Ron) Hughes (Mill River, P.E.I), and Richard Landry (Georgetown, P.E.I). He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Dorothy (Lavers) Landry and his siblings, Harold Landry, Albert Landry and Lorraine(Caldwell).

Flick was born in Georgetown, P.E.I. After marrying Jean (Jay) they started a family and he joined the military, with postings in Ontario; Lahr, Germany; and Nova Scotia. They retired in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Following Jean’s passing in September of 2002 Flick moved to Alberta.

Flick’s passion was his family. He will be remembered as being kind and loving as well as for being a very compassionate man with a good sense of humor. Besides his family, he also loved cooking and sports – especially hockey.

Dad, you are gone from us now, but you will live forever in our hearts. It gives us great peace to know that you are with the Lord. We love you so much. Our family would like to express gratitude to the many health care providers who were so kind to Dad - especially those at the Santuari Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Flick’s memory to the “Ride to Conquer Cancer” at http://www.conquercancer.ca/goto/TeamTernes. Amy and Karen will be doing this bike ride to raise funds for cancer research and in memory of Flick.

A Celebration of Flick’s Life will be held on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Centre Street
Church, 3900 - 2 Street NE, Calgary.

To Karen, Darcy, Amy and Jenna Your Dad, Father-in-law and grandfather was much loved by you and your family. Although no longer able to be seen or touched, he will continue to walk with you and guide you throughout your lives. The memories you have will remain forever, as will the love you have for him in your hearts. We wish we could express to you all the appropriate words. Floyd started out as a customer for my landscaping company but quickly turned into more of a friend than a client. Both hailing from P.E.I we would sit and talk about "back home" over coffee. Even on the days he didnt need his grass cut their was always an extended coffee time chat. Forever proud of his kids and grandkids. My deepest condolences on the loss of such a great man. RIP Flick. I was in Germany with Flick in the late 70'S. I played a lot of hockey with him and he was a great player as well as a great person. He always had time to stop and talk or have a beer with all his friends, you will me missed my good friend.

Our deepest sympathy to the Landry family during your time of grief. I was very fortunate to work for Flick back in 1979 when, as a young and newly married couple, my wife Donna and I were stationed in Lahr, Germany. Flick was more than my Sergeant, he was a great mentor and an extremely caring and compassionate leader. He understood the strain of new marriage in a foreign place and it was through his care and counsel that I credit him the fact that my wife and I are now enjoying our 35th year together along with our kids and grands. My sincere condolences to Flick's family, I first met Flick in Petatwawa in 1971 when he and another lineman,Gerry Gillis, ruled the ice for Signals' teams. I met up with him again in 4Sigs in Lahr, Germany in 1977 and again in Debert, N.S. in 1984. Later, in PEI in 2002 after the passing of his dear Jean, I met Flick at the entrance to the Future Shop just before his planned move to Alberta to be closer to his children. Islanders still remember and talk about Flick's smooth skating and playmaking ability. Alfie Flanagan and Ivan MacPhee - hockey standouts both - marveled at Flick's ability to play the game. Flick was much more than a loyal soldier and talented hockey player; he was a true gentleman - in every sense of the word, and a friend to every young soldier when we needed it most. He will not be forgotten. RIP old friend. VVV

It was with great sorrow that I learned of the passing of Flick. please accept my condolonces. He was a highly respected member of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. I did not serve with him but I did play hockey against him and sometimes you get to know people better threw sports, I saw him at the 100 reunion and we reminiced and we were going to get together in Calgary but it never happened. I was a young hockey player playing in Kingston, Ont., in 1967 with Flick and the Base team. I've thought of him often over the years with his unique skating style....flick...flick with his skates clipping the ice with every push. Sorry for your loss....I've thought of him often.
