Alice Leokadia Kurkiewicz

It is with broken hearts we say farewell to our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who at 100 years old, entered into God’s presence at West Shore Laylum on Thursday, February 11, 2021.

Born in Siemiatkowo, Poland to Christian and Wanda Paulus, she was 1 of 12 children. She later married Waclaw Kurkiewicz on June 19, 1945, with whom she had her 3 children, Stanley, Andrew & Alice. In April 1963, she would arrive in Canada on Good Friday, immigrating to this country with her children. Alice’s greatest inspiration in her life was her father, a strong Christian and a good example of a faithful servant of God. Her focus was always on her children as she unconditionally loved her family. Alice enjoyed working in the garden and volunteering in her church. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God which she shared with those around her.

Alice is survived by her sister Elizabeth Rein, and her children Stan (Lilka), Andy (Jennifer), and Alice (Bill), along with her 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces & nephews. Her family would like to thank the amazing staff at West Shore Laylum for the love and care they have shown her over the years.

There will not be a service with friends & family at this time, and we hope to have a Celebration of Life service in the future when it is safe for all of her loved ones to come together to honour her. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Alzheimer Society of BC or a charity of your choice. We love you Mom and you will be in our hearts forever.

Memories I remember that day the family dropped in Winnipeg when you first came from Poland. I was only 11. I have known Alice a very long time. She was practically family. Along with Alice I got to know her family. Alice was one of the cutest grandma at Westshore Laylum. I will always remember her giggles and laughter. We were very lucky to celebrate the 100th birthday with you. Alice you will be missed dearly. My condolences to the family.
