Willemina "Helma" Maria Klein Ikkink

1951 - 2014

Our entire family is deeply saddened to share the news that Helma passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the age of 63 years, in the comfort of her own home surrounded by family and friends after a brave fight with cancer.

Loving wife to her husband of 40 years, Jan Klein Ikkink; loving mother of Suzanne (Craig) Zubris , Erika (Steven) Thompson and dear Oma to Anthony Klein Ikkink, Marieka Thompson , Amelia Thompson and Cole Zubris. She is survived by her mother, Willemina van Ginkel; her brother, John (Diane) van Ginkel and her sister, Joanne (Gerry) Lalonde.

In the words of her Westjet family "Anyone that had the honour of knowing this amazing lady, knew that her passion for life and for living far exceeded the little frame that appeared. A lady with so much to share and give that it would radiate towards those of us that would be near her."

A Remembrance Tea will be held for Helma at The Doves Nest, 106A – 1600 90th Avenue SW, Calgary, AB on Sunday, October 26, 2014. Please feel free to drop by anytime between 1pm -4pm to celebrate her life and enjoy a cup of tea.

Hoi Jan, Sue & Erika en fam. Gecondoleerd met je vrouw en moeder oma Helma. Wij gedenken haar als een heel lieve vrouw met veel humor. Als ze bij ons was, was het heel gezellig en hadden we samen veel aan elkaar te vertellen. We gingen winkelen en boerenpatat met een frikandel speciaal eten. Dat was altijd een feestje. Wij zijn blij dat we haar hebben leren kennen. We hopen dat ze de rust vind die ze verdient. Maar het is wel veel te vroeg. We have known Helma for more than 20 years with her husband Jan employed here. She was always so lively and spunky. She had such spirit and a generous and loving heart. She came to every social event, liked dropping by and personally delivered a gorgeous Christmas poinsettia every year. We will miss her so much.

Helma was certainly one-of-a-kind. Helma was one of the most original persons you could possibly meet, and not easy to forget once you spent some time with her. Helma was one of the freshest most open persons I ever knew. She was always inquisitive and energetic and excelled in keeping up with all the events around her. In the almost sixty years that I knew her (and her family) I can easily say she was always to a fault, open and helpful in any situation she found herself ... or yourself in. Helma was a truly good person. She was always aware of the needs of those around her. Of all the Cousins she was consistently the most fun and a guarantee of another good adventure. I think Helma's middle name was "Excitement" because it trailed her everywhere, often with laughable, goof-natured, and quite unintended consequences ... but never a dull moment. She hold's a special place in my memories, and I will always be grateful for her, as she only ever conveyed to me .... kindness, conviviality and genuine friendship. For all who have had the privilege to spend any time with her, you would then know a truly enduring and sweet soul.
