Madge Kiel 1926-2024

Madge Kiel passed peacefully on February 11th, 2024, at her residence, the Santa Maria Senior Citizen home at the age of 97. Born Madge Senior on October 4th, 1926, in Sheffield, England.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Flo Senior, her husband of 50 years, William (Bill), infant son, John, and her brother Leonard & sister Isabella.

She leaves to treasure her memory, her children: Linda (Richard) Fyfe, Paulette (Rick) Priest and Aubrey (Dianna) Kiel. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Madge married in 1945 and moved to Canada as a war bride in 1946. They resided in the farming community of Earl Grey for 50 plus years. She was a very active volunteer in the community.

After the passing of Bill in 1996, she moved to Regina and was a resident at Cedarwood Manor for 20 plus years.

As per Madge’s wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no funeral services.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Santa Maria staff for their compassion and care of our mother.

I met Madge in 1975, when I stayed with my aunt Norma Dohlen. I was happy to work with her in the Earl Grey pub on the weekends, serving drinks. She and Bill were the only people who visited me when I was teaching in Tumbler Ridge, BC. We kept in contact, until the last three years. I am sad for me, but happy for her that she is at rest, and rejoined with Bill. Linda

To All of Madge's family: She was indeed a very special person. She was the first one there to help when our mother became ill. The times I got to visit her in Santa Maria she always was so grateful for the visit and thanked us often for coming. She always said that she knew we had other things to do so she appreciated the visit so much. Upon leaving her final statement was "God Bless You and take care of yourself" and "Drive safely". May she rest in peace!

To Linda, Paulette and Aubrey and your families, I extend my deepest condolences. Your mom and dad were such dear friends and I always enjoyed hearing their stories especially those about how they met and married in England. I always enjoyed catching up on what all of you were doing when I went to visit Madge. She was so proud to show off your pictures and to reminisce about our families and community. My favourite story was about the first harvest meal that she helped prepare just after arriving in Canada! Hers was truly a life well lived!

My deepest sympathy to Madge's family. I have such great childhood memories of her as the Kiel family farm was a short distance from our farm and we saw a lot of Madge and Bill and their family during my childhood -- be it on the farm, at the community hall or rink, at church and other community events, or later, after I left Saskatchewan, dropping in for a cup of tea or coffee with her and Bill. Madge was a character, full of laughter and love. She could, of course, be firm -- as we kids would find out if we strayed from good behavior! But she was always loving and warm and welcoming -- a beautiful soul.
