Jean Kernaghan passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on March 19th, 2012. Jean was born in Mirror, Alberta and spent her early days on a farm in the Mirror district. In 1941 she moved to Calgary with her husband, Floyd Cockrall and two children, Jim and Gloria. Daughter Dianne was born in Calgary soon after.
For a time the family owned a coffee shop in the Hillhurst district.
Jean retired from a secretarial position with Calgary United Way in 1971. Following her marriage to Bill (Scotty) Kernaghan, they lived in the Spruce Cliff District, and later moved to Danna Village.
Following her husband's death, she moved to Red Deer to be with family and spent time at Victoria Park, Club Sierra and at the time of her passing, she was in extended care at Bethany College Side.
Jean was predeceased by her mother and father, Mable and Jim Cairns of Mirror, and her brother Bob.
She is survived by her son Jim Cockrall(Rose), daughter Gloria Moore(Don) and Dianne Williams (Merlin), step daughter Janice Anderson(Laverne) and her sister Isabel Dermott; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 7great, great grandchildren.
A celebration of Jean's life will be held on Saturday March 24th at 1:PM at the Bethany College Side, 100 College Circle. Red Deer. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean may be made to a charity of choice.
