With deepest regret, we announce the passing of a very special and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Dorothy Margaret Johnson passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the Red Deer Hospital at the age of 87, with family by her side. Born in Ponoka, Alberta on July 27, 1924, she was the youngest daughter of Beulah and Herman Dickau. She grew up in the Bentley/Gull Lake area and went to work in Sylvan Lake, where she met Gordon Johnson. They were married March 16, 1947 in Sylvan Lake and resided at the family farm in the Pine Hill district until they retired and moved to Sylvan Lake in 1974. She was currently an active member of the Sylvan Lake Legion Auxiliary Branch #212 serving as Seargent of Arms, Evening Guild of the SL Presbyterian Church and an avid bingo caller and player. She served on the Parkland Credit Union Board of Directors for 21 years and also volunteered in many, many other community organizations throughout her life.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her family of 4 children-Jim(Shirleen) of Stauffer, Robert(Jeannie) of Quesnell, BC, Pat(Ted) Moore of Red Deer and Gary Johnson of Red Deer, 8 grandchildren and their spouses, 14 great grandchildren, brother Harvey(Margaret) Dickau, sister-in-laws, Joan Dickau and Eva Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon, son Wesley and grandson Mark.
A memorial service for Dorothy will be held at 2 pm on Friday, August 5, at Sylvan Lake Memorial Presbyterian Church. Donations in memory of Dorothy Johnson may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, (directed for leukemia research), 101, 6751 – 52 Ave., Red Deer, AB T4N 4K8, (www.cancer.ca) or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
