John Ron Sylvestre

July 21, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Ron Sylvestre, a devoted father, grandfather, great‑grandfather, foster parent, and friend, who left this world surrounded by the love of his family.

John was born to Rebecca Leone Gaudry Sylvestre and John Oscar Conrad Sylvestre, and grew up in a bustling family of fourteen children.

One of the most memorable stories John shared with his children was from his teenage years. Beginning at just 13 years old, John and his brothers would jump trains to travel from town to town, searching for work wherever they could find it. He continued this daring and determined way of getting around until he was about eighteen, before eventually settling down, marrying his first wife Faye, and moving to Regina, where they began building a home and starting their family together. It was a testament to his grit, courage, and willingness to do whatever was needed to support himself and his family.

A hardworking and skilled man, John built his life with dedication and craftsmanship. From a young age he worked as a contractor and carpenter, taking great pride in every project he touched.

John was previously married to Faye Holkestad Sylvestre and later to Darlene Babcock Sylvestre, both of whom predeceased him. Together, John and Darlene opened their hearts and home as loving foster parents, caring for children in need with compassion and stability. John held a special place in his heart for the foster children he cared for over the years; he missed them deeply and thought of them often, carrying their memories with him always.

After moving to Mossbank, he and his second wife Darlene became the custodians of Mossbank School. John also generously volunteered his time to build and create items for the Mossbank School, offering his skills whenever they were needed. He was warmly regarded and respected throughout the community.

Even after retiring, John continued to serve the Town of Mossbank as the landfill attendant, a role he held with commitment until his passing.

John had a lifelong love of motorbikes and spent many years riding, even traveling into the United States on his bike. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time outdoors with his family.

He adored his little dogs, who were his constant companions and brought him joy every day.

John deeply loved his children and grandchildren. He found true happiness in the time they spent together—laughing, sharing playful jokes, and creating memories that will be cherished forever. He had a playful spirit, a love of pranks, and a natural gift for bringing laughter into everyday life.

Some of the most treasured memories his children and grandchildren hold are the moments spent fishing and camping together.

John’s roots ran deep in southern Saskatchewan, with family ties to the St. Victor and Willow Bunch areas, and he was proud of his Métis heritage.

He is lovingly remembered by his children Cheryl Sylvestre, Ronald Sylvestre, Calvin Sylvestre, Penny Sylvestre Charnock (predeceased), and Robert Sylvestre, as well as Sherry Wray (Ed Wray) and Danielle Henderson (Charles Henderson).

He was a proud grandfather to Adam, Ashley, Karen, Zachary, Lane (Maddie), Jessica (Tennessee), Bruce, Connor, Kamilia, and Jameson, and a cherished great‑grandfather to Xavier and Violet.

He is survived by two of his sisters, along with numerous nieces and nephews, while his parents rest at St. Victor Roman Catholic Cemetery.

In keeping with his wishes, no formal funeral service will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date, where family and friends will gather in Mossbank to share stories, laughter, and memories in his honor.

For those wishing to make a gesture in John’s memory, the family encourages acts of kindness that reflect his generous spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support local children through the Moose Jaw Motorcycle Toy Run, a meaningful tribute to John’s love of motorbikes and giving back to his community.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
