John Gamerschlag

September 18, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Gamerschlag, who was born on March 26, 1954, and passed away on September 18, 2026, at the age of 72.

John will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Megan Shinske and Tess (Keith) Trenker, and his grandchildren, Josh, Lara, Paige, Rhys, and Bria, who brought him tremendous love and pride. He will be greatly missed by the families of Dan Warwick, Rebecca Warwick Hussey, Virginia Gamerschlag, Crystal Gamerschlag, John Fleming, and Brandon (Caitlyn) Hussey.

He will also be remembered by his many friends and family, including the many comedians in his life, such as his dear friend Darren, and his truly indispensable sisters-in-law, Pat and Terrie, who undoubtedly kept him on his toes and provided plenty of laughs along the way.

John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley, as well as his parents and siblings. It brought him peace knowing he would be reunited with Shirley, and we take comfort in knowing that they are together once again.

John leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, memories, and the people who loved him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his sense of humour and the memories he created will live on through his family and friends.

In accordance with John’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care and understanding.

My deepest condolences to John’s family. Best friends beginning in high school, John and Daryl Ashbee, reunited last year after decades apart. John spent a weekend at Daryl’s cabin up north last summer. Daryl talked about the stories they shared from the old days. Daryl passed away suddenly last October. John and Daryl are reunited once again, to continue sharing those great memories 🙏🏻
