Winnie passed into Eternity at the Regina Pasqua Hospital at the age of 99. She was born in Cupar, SK to Jacob and Elizabeth Meyer (nee Klug), the second youngest of their 14 children. She is lovingly remembered by her sons Bob (Beth), David (Phyllis), Ron and Allen (Cindy); her grandchildren Raena (Steve), Charlene (Kenny), Rob, Jaimie and Marissa; her great-grandchildren Brayden, Ethan and Jordyn; her sister Lydia and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, 12 siblings, her husband Harold and her grandson Shaun.
Winnie was raised on the family farm, first in Cupar and later in Lestock, SK. Working alongside her parents she became adept at growing and preserving garden produce, cooking delicious meals and baking homemade bread and buns. Winnie married her childhood sweetheart Harold Gordon Jessop on November 11, 1945 shortly after his discharge from the R.C.A.F. (WWII). Harold bought his father’s land near Leross, SK and the couple farmed, built their home and raised their family on that land. They were loving parents to their 4 boys as they shared their Christian faith, family values, strong work ethic and sense of fun through their own example. Winnie also became a second Mother to her niece Shirley Jessop following the early death of Shirley’s Mother. Winnie was well known by her large extended family and countless friends and neighbours for her generous hospitality, incredible meals, warm hugs and wonderful sense of humour. Winnie and Harold moved to Fort Qu’Appelle, SK when they retired in 1997. Sadly, Harold passed away in 1999. In 2005 Winnie moved to Highland Manor in Regina where she spent 15 happy years enjoying visits from family and friends and ongoing social times with fellow residents. She moved to Eden Care Residence associated with Regina Lutheran Home in February 2020 and remained there until her passing. Her family is deeply grateful to the countless people who blessed Winnie throughout her life and to the staff who cared for her so faithfully in her time of need.
In light of the current Covid-19 concerns Winnie’s family will have a Private Graveside Service. They hope to have a Celebration of Life at a safer time. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2015 - 4th Avenue North, Regina, SK S4R 0T5.
