Jean Maw
August 19, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Jean Maw on August 19, 2025. She passed away peacefully at the age of 98, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in New Westminster on March 27, 1927, Jean Mackay, fondly known as ‘Jeanie’, was actively involved in her communities. She was a member of several churches and Bible study groups, in numerous places and of varied denominations. She lived in Vancouver, Pender Harbour, Langley, Lytton, and most recently back again in Langley.
‘Jeanie’ had a full and widely varied life: she had been a girl guide, a store clerk, a primary school teacher, a 4H club leader, a church leader, as well as a wife, and a mother to 7 children. She was also an honorary mother and grandmother to several generations of children; some related to her, and many that were not.
Jean was predeceased by her siblings Nan MacNaughton, John Mackay, Robert Mackay, and Betty Higgins; by her husband Joseph Oliver Maw; and by her two children Arthur Maw and Harmeny Daniel.
She is survived by her children - Earl C. Earl, Patrick Maw, Thorinn Oakunsheyld (Susan), Colleen Hansen (Peter), and Jann Hall (Randy). As well, Jean leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
A celebration of life will be held on the afternoon of September 13th, 2025, at 1:30 pm at Living Waters Church 9095 Glover Road in Fort Langley.
The family has requested that donations be made to Kuwasha International Development Society (Uganda) in lieu of flowers.
