Marion Joan Irwin (nee Banta) passed away peacefully at her home in Airdrie, Alberta on Sunday, June 13, 2021. Marion will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Lyle Irwin; daughter, Terry (Ken) Reid of Airdrie, Alberta; son, Tim (Judy) Irwin of Spokane Valley, Washington; grandchildren, Miles (Courtney), Brandon (Anna), Austin (Jeff), Andrea (Levi), Blythe, Brynn; and four great-grandchildren. Marion is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Evelyn (Harold) Helzer; brothers, David (Jeanette) Banta and Dale (Lindsey) Banta; brother-in-law, Harry Rowney; sisters-in-law, Gail Irwin and Joan (Ernie) Smith; and many nieces and nephews. Marion was predeceased by her parents, Ellis and Ruth Banta; sister, Marge Rowney; sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Howard Wood; and brother-in-law, Bill Irwin. Marion was born and spent her early years on the farm near Crossfield. Over the years, Marion worked at various jobs including the Bank of Commerce in Crossfield (there for the holdup), Don Beddoes Construction and then got started in business with Young’s Propane. She and husband, Lyle, owned and operated hotels in Airdrie, Canmore and Pincher Creek before returning to Crossfield where they bought and farmed her parent’s farm, ultimately taking up residence in Airdrie. Marion enjoyed curling, camping, gardening, her Christmas light displays and occasional happy hours. Her favourite holiday spot was Las Vegas. She had a love for people, children, animals and the disadvantaged. There will be a private family interment in Crossfield Cemetery at a later date. The family gratefully declines flowers, however a donation in Marion’s name to a charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated.
