Wayne Byron Hopkins
May 5, 1938 – June 7, 2023.
Wayne passed peacefully at home, Wednesday June 7th with his wife and children by his side. He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and moved to Vancouver as a young boy. Wayne recently celebrated his 85th birthday and lived a full life. His legacy will live on through his family.
Wayne was a legend, a storyteller, a sports lover, a full of life joke teller. He loved his time playing goalie for multiple hockey teams, spent countless days on the golf green but his favourite pastime was without a doubt salmon fishing. Wayne spent many summers on the water trying to reel in the biggest fish on the boat.
More importantly, he was a devoted husband, loving father, committed grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Colleen; his six children, Steven, Vicki, Melanie (Bryan), Michelle (Jon), Matthew (Janet) and Megan (Jamie). He had sixteen beautiful grandchildren and three great-grandchildren whom he adored and cherished. They made his life complete.
Thank you for supporting our family through this difficult time. We appreciate your words of condolences and encouragement as we navigate life without our favorite man!
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses with the Fraser Health Palliative Care Team for their care and compassion during Wayne’s final journey.
Wayne always loved to share a drink with his family and friends, so we invite you to grab an ice-cold Molson Canadian and toast to his life, legacy and memory.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the BC Cancer Foundation in Wayne Hopkins’ name.
