In loving memory of Zia, who was born in Llantwit Major Glamorgan GBR to Dr. Victor Saddler and Elise Blodwin (Deere) Hawkes. After moving from England to Toronto at the age of 24 and then Winnipeg from 1949-1955 she finally settled in Vancouver in 1956 where for many years she taught Secondary and Primary students, retiring from the teaching profession on June 30 1989. She completed her College work in England, and then in the University of British Columbia graduating with a B.Ed in 1958 and her Professional College of Teacher certificate in 1988. She taught English and French in Winnipeg and Vancouver schools and will long be remembered by a multitude of pupils for her gracious loving manner and excellence in teaching.
Zia was a dedicated Christian, baptized in water in her Baptist church in Sheffield on April 20 1947. While in Vancouver she attended and contributed as a member of First Baptist church in Vancouver. She was predeceased by her beloved sister Madeleine and her parents and is survived by, her brother Rev. Dr Paul and his wife Mary Ann Hawkes as well as her nephews Rev Mark Hawkes and Rev. Dr Paul Stewart Hawkes and their respective families.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Amherst Private Hospital nursing staff for their care of Zia over the last remaining years of her life. She is now with her Lord Jesus Christ whom she loved and served. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the Missions department of First Baptist Church (969 Burrard St. Vancouver, BC V6Z 1Y1).

There will be a brief memorial service for the two sisters, Madeleine and Zia Hawkes held in the chapel at Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services at, 3070 -275A Street Aldergrove, BC V4W 3L4 on Friday September 26th at 3:00 pm.
