Sid passed away peacefully wrapped in the love of his family on March 20, 2014 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 61. Sid was a welder from a young age. When he was in high school his welding class built the original steel gate at the Granum CRC cemetery. After working in Calgary and Edmonton he came home and worked in Nobleford at Noble Blades, in Barons and later in Nobleford at Keho Industries. When Edwards Grain Industries bought Keho Industries he stayed working for them. At the time of his death he had worked there for 27 years and was proud of every minute of those years. Sid was a long standing member of the Nobleford Christian Reformed Church, an original member of the Lethbridge Christian Mens' Choir and for 20+ years was a leader of the Nobleford Christian Reformed Church Cadets. Sid is survived by his best friend and wife of 24 years, Margaret, their six children and 5 amazing grandchildren: Gordon McNichol, Tim McNichol (Kathy Plomp), Glen Havinga (Carol), Barry Havinga, James Havinga (Kayla Szabo) and their children Ramaro and Auriauna, Sherry Bakowski (Dwayne) and their children Shamus, Malikhi and Braizlee. Sid is also survived by his parents, Arthur and Alberta Havinga, his siblings, Adrianna Bolduc (Dyce), Jennie Cherniwchan (Brian), Walter Havinga (Theresa), Elza Bouwman and too many nieces and nephews to mention. Sid’s family also included his aunts and uncles; Ralph and Wilma Poelman, Joe and Ann Havinga, Annabelle Robinson and many cousins in Canada and the United States. Sid's extended family included Margaret's three sisters; Judy, Trudy, Roxanne (Jack), two brothers; Bill (Lauretta), Jim (Elsie), numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Sid was predeceased by the mother of his sons, Lois Havinga, his grandparents and his aunt and uncle, John and Marie Sterenberg. Sid’s greatest joys were spending time with his family, camping and FISHING!!!!!
A Celebration of Sid’s Life will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Nobleford Christian Reformed Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday March 27, 2014 from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM
Interment will be at the Granum Christian Reformed Cemetery immediately following the service. Luncheon to follow at the Nobleford CRC

Thank you from Margaret, their family as well as the Havinga and Jenkins families for being a part of Sid’s life, for your friendship and love, for laughing and praying with him and sometimes dodging the result of his temper. His leadership, work ethics and pride in workmanship that he instilled in you will stay with you forever.
