Iona Myrtice Hartwell

Iona Myrtice Hartwell passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 in the Regina General Hospital at the age of 94 years. Iona was born on October 8, 1919 in Canora, SK. She was predeceased by her parents Emby and George Hartwell and three half-sisters Ruby Campbell, Hazel Turner, and Edna Giebel. Iona will be mourned by her brother Arthur Hartwell (Vivian), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In her employment years she had worked with Ogilvie Flour Mills in Winnipeg, worked in a northern mining community in Ontario, worked a time at the House of Commons in Ottawa, and returned to Saskatchewan where her employment included a time in Women’s Extension Works with Federated Co-operatives in Saskatoon. She concluded her service with the Government of Saskatchewan, some seventeen years of which were with the Saskatchewan Power Corporation. Private family graveside service will be held. Cremation will take place and her cremains will be buried with her parents in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Aunt Iona always remembered our birthdays; it was her way of letting us know that she was thinking about us and wishing us good health and happiness. Even at the age of 94 she made every effort to contact those she loved on special occassions. She especially enjoyed communicating by phone or by letter with her friends and family. Aunt Iona loved to celebrate our accomplishments as we grew up and often cooked for us or took us out for lovely dinners. Aunt Iona was a fountain of information, and could fill you in on any topic, as she kept up to date on all that was happenning in the world. She was very hard working and independent, endeavoring to do things on her own. Aunt Iona we remember many good times, when you had to be a good sport to put up with all the Hartwell "shinanigans" you were always an enthusiastic participant in family gatherings. We have many fond memories!
