John "Jack" Harris

May 20, 2021

John (Jack) Harris passed away at the Regina General Hospital on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Denise; his son Kent; his daughter Shelley (Glenn Merth), and their daughter Jenna.

Jack had a long and fulfilling career as an educator with the Regina Catholic School division. He enjoyed the outdoors and had many excellent skiing and fishing trips with great stories to tell. In retirement, Jack, Denise and Kent were able to travel the world. He enjoyed spending time relaxing at their trailer, working on their home and yard, and building wooden crafts. Grandpa Jack loved spending time with his granddaughter Jenna and their visits were always very special.

Jack had a life well lived. It was full of happiness, a beautiful wife Denise, loving family, incredible friends, and wonderful relatives. We will all carry on and smile, keeping his memory alive in all that he taught us.

A Private Celebration of Life was held on Friday, May 28, 2021.

Dear Denise and family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May it comfort you to know that Jack’s lifelong faith in God will be rewarded with a place in His heavenly kingdom. ‘Mr. Harris’ was my (Janette’s) grade 8 teacher at St. Thomas. I met him again, many years later when we served on the board of directors for Martha House. He lived his values, shared of his time, and was, in the true sense of the word, a gentleman. May he Rest In Peace.

Denise; I was just thinking of you and Jack about when I saw you at the fall suppers at St Jean Baptist with Mom (Annette) and Aunt Carmelle. Dear Denise, Kent, Shelley and family, We were very sorry to read Jack's obituary today, and we send you our sincere sympathy. We liked Jack very much and we enjoyed his gentle humour. He was Laurie's principal in her first teaching position at St. James School, where he was very supportive and positive. I'll always remember our staff "Laugh-In" sketch at the school Christmas concert, where Jack took the role of Henry Gibson and recited a poem. It was a pleasure to later know Denise as a CWL member and a teaching colleague, to teach Shelley, and to partner with Kent in the Children's Liturgy program at St. Martin's church. We always liked seeing Jack and family at church and other locations, and enjoying a friendly chat. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Denise and Family, John and I send our heartfelt condolences on your loss of Jack. He will be enjoying his eternal reward as a just and honourable man of faith, who gave generously of himself in the service of others. From the time we began our teaching careers together in Regina Catholic Schools in the 60s and through mutual friends, common interests and activities, we have been blessed to have been connected over 55 years. I shared five years at Miller Comprehensive with Jack when he headed the General Education program. He was a wonderful role model for staff and students and bore witness to the growth and development of so many young people with challenges. He could create the environment that enabled success for every student, with his gentle manner and positive expectations. We will cherish his indominable spirit. God's speed Jack!
