It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Hans (Johannes) Klaris on April 13, 2026, at the age of 80. Born in Berlin, Germany, and raised in the Netherlands, he was the son of Wilhelmina Goudswaard and Petrus Paulus Klaris, and a beloved brother to Amanda Klaris and Paul Klaris.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Isabelle Klaris; his daughter, Denise Levine (née Klaris); his son, Terry Klaris; and his cherished granddaughter, Antonia Levine, as well as extended family in the Netherlands.
Hans was a professional photographer who graduated with honors from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. He spent many years capturing the world through his lens, creating striking photographs and memorable portraits that reflected both his skill and his unique perspective. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his curiosity about the world, his love of the outdoors, and his enjoyment of conversation and connecting with others.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 12:45 PM at St. Paul Parish, 8251 St Albans Road, Richmond, BC.
A celebration of life will follow. In honour of Hans’ love of colour, guests are welcome to wear colours of their choice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stanley Park Ecology Society: https://stanleyparkecology.ca/support-us/donate/
