Minnie Mainwaring Haggerty

February 24, 2025

Minnie Haggerty

Minnie Mainwaring Haggerty (nee Parsonage), age 92 years, passed away peacefully at the Westminster House care home, White Rock, B.C. on Monday, February 24th, 2025.  Minnie was born on May 19th, 1932 in Baldur, Manitoba.

Minnie will be deeply missed by her children Maureen and Patrick (partner Carolyn) and two granddaughters, Quinn and Teagan.  She also leaves behind sister-in-laws Doris and Lorraine Parsonage and dozens of nieces and nephews across the country.

Minnie was predeceased by husband Bill, brothers Frank, Harry, Walter and Jack and her sister, Jesse. She was the last surviving child of Walter and Lilian Parsonage.

Minnie grew up on the family farm in Manitoba and had stories of walking among the flowers, riding her favourite horse, Old Jim, and cooking for the gang during harvest.  She attended school in Greenway and Baldur.

Minnie and Bill were married in 1958 and lived in Winnipeg and Calgary during their early married life.  With two young children, they moved to Tsawwassen, B.C. in 1972.  Minnie continued to live in sunny Tsawwassen until 2022 when she moved to White Rock.

Minnie felt a passion for helping others and graduated from nursing school in Winnipeg during the early 1950’s.  Her work had her in many supervisor and leading hospital roles throughout her successful nursing career. She retired at age 62 in 1995 and then spent time playing bridge, volunteering, travelling, and enjoying her home and yard. She loved to attend music and theatre events with friends in sorority and the United Church.  Her many lifelong friends across the country enjoyed her sense of humour and the twinkle in her eye.

Minnie was known for being a kind and compassionate person.  She had the ability to listen and act as a surrogate mother/friend/companion to anyone that had a question or wanted sound advice.  She always responded with wisdom and empathy.

In accordance with Minnie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of life at a preannounced time this coming spring/summer.  Anyone wishing to do so may make a memorial donation to a charity of their choice.

I was lucky to grow up across the street from Minnie. She has always been my Auntie Minnie, but truthfully closer to a mother than an aunt. I know I am a better person for knowing her and she will be missed. Sending hugs to Moe and Pat. xo ~ Sarah Anderson (Day)
