Beverley June Gyles

With great sadness, our family announces the passing of Beverley June Gyles, our incredible Mom, Grandma and Gigi, at the age of 94.

We all loved her so much and will miss her more than any words can express. Her presence felt like sunshine, and she could brighten any room with her warm smile, laugh and gentle soul. Mom was love, purely as it can exist in any person, and we will forever treasure the special memories we each have of her.

Grieving her loss are her children Karyn McFetridge, Scott (Gayle) and Alison (Darrell Jones), grandchildren Kyle McFetridge (Brianne), Lauren Holcomb (Chris), Chris McFetridge (Ashley) and Kayte (Alex Wall), great-grandchildren Mackenzie and Alex McFetridge, Owen and Poppy Holcomb, and Rory and Ian McFetridge, nieces Barb Nicoll (Scott) and Brenda Hain, her sister-in-law Mary Gyles, along with many other nephews, nieces, and relatives.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Art Gyles (Jul 2004), parents Dolly Hain (Jan 1988) and Bill Hain Sr (Mar 1970), brother Doug Hain (Oct 2005), nephew Bill Hain (Oct 2011), her best friend Donna Scott (Mar 2020), and countless other family members and dear friends.

Born in Winnipeg, mom had an eventful childhood as the family followed her father's job at CN rail from Winnipeg to Prince Albert, Regina, and Saskatoon. As a natural athlete, it was only fitting that she met our dad at the Saskatoon Badminton Club. From there, they continued to see each other, even when they were living in different cities. When Dad started working in Toronto, she also moved there. It was there where they got engaged and were married. They moved from Toronto to Winnipeg, where Karyn and Scott were born, and then to Regina, where Alison was born.

Mom lived in Regina for most of her adult life and considered the beautiful prairies her home. However due to the pandemic, she spent her last few years by the west coast beaches in Surrey and Tofino, BC.

Mom had so many interests - playing golf and tennis, curling, watching a great football game, playing bridge, and travelling.  She was also an incredible baker, especially when it came to making cookies. Her friends and family always loved receiving her baked goods.

Her favourite thing in the world, however, was being with people! She loved nothing more than enjoying good conversation and laughter with others. Mom loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who topped her priority list.

She could chat with anyone and did, making friends no matter where she was. She was kind and generous and always there for everyone. And then there was her absolute love of dogs – hers or anyone else's. She always made friends and had conversations with them as well.

As per her wishes, no funeral service will be held. Our family will place her ashes alongside Dad in a private ceremony.

We are very grateful and would like to thank the staff at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, BC, for the incredible care they provided Mom in her last couple of weeks.
