Minnie Goertzen, late of Weyburn, SK, born on July 6, 1931 in Glen Kerr, SK left to join the angels on January 5, 2023.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Gerard and her son Ed; both her parents; her brothers Ed, Tony, and Peter as well as her sister Gladys.
Minnie is survived by her daughters Monica and Wanda; sons James, Gerald, Glen, and Tony; her brother Johnny and her sisters Lorraine, Ester and Elsie; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and other family.
Our mother was a rock and a survivor who suffered many challenges in her life. She survived infantile paralysis at age 3 and several surgeries after to try to save her foot. In 1965 she had her leg amputated.
Minnie married the love of her life in July, 1952 and together they had 7 children. Mom loved horses and it is apparent by the amount of ornaments she has.
She loved music. We remember growing up and loved to watch her play the harpsichord. She and Dad formed a band called the Blue Fiddle Band. Dad played fiddle and Mom followed on the harp and eventually played keyboard. They played their music all around the Weyburn area.
Mom taught us patience and compassion for others and was a strong advocate for the underdog. She was always there with a helping hand in whatever way was needed. There will never be another woman like her. We are immensely proud to have had her for our Mom. We have never lived in a world without her and now we must adjust to a life in a world that she is no longer in but she will continue to live in our hearts.
Private Family Service will be held at a later date. Interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK. Donations in memory of Minnie may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
