Betsy Ruth Filion

Our beautiful Mom passed away on May 18, 2013. Predeceased by her loving husband of 38 years, Hank (1989) and her devoted companion of 21 years, Doug Dougans (2013). She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Jill Diane (Ron) and Judi Anne. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Ernest & Martha Yardy and 12 sisters and brothers.

She was a founding member of the Tsawwassen Tennis Club; volunteered for 40 years at the Canadian Cancer Clinic and Triumf; spent the last ten years as a volunteer at the Delta Hospice Cottage store. She loved to entertain – for over 30 years she hosted a Ladies’ Day with the women from the TTC and Arbutus Tennis clubs; held annual Christmas soup nights with her Beta Sigma Phi sorority sisters and many other milestone events with their dear friends. Mom will be remembered as a faithful parishioner of St. David’s Anglican Church. She was treasured by many and will be missed.

Our thank-you to Dr. Hollinger; the staff at Delta Hospital Emergency and the Delta Hospice for the care and respect they showed Mom. Her niece Rosemary was no end of support to her daughters. Ellen and Keiko were Mom’s caregivers and we are forever grateful for their wonderful care of her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 6 at 2:00 pm at St David’s Anglican Church in Tsawwassen. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Delta Hospice Society or the BC Cancer Agency.

We will cherish you always in our hearts, Mom.

How very sorry I was to hear of your Mother's passing. Wow, what a lady, in every sense of the word ! She was strong, sensitive, talented, thoughtful, wise, inspirational and a LOT of fun ! The best hostess, and she taught me so much at how to entertain. ( how I loved the garage and all the treasures for parties ! ) I once was there after there had been houseguests for a week, and there was a dead plant on the fireplace. She laughed and said that she didn't have time to worry about that when she had people there who were so much more important !!! And the tea tray in the kitchen, always ready for company. The huge sit down dinners and every table with a tablecloth and matching napkins, the HUGE tennis parties, with not one paper plate in sight! The sunday invite for a drink and an appy. And once Betsy lying on the sofa with a headache, too much fun the night before, but the party continued because of course everything was ready and waiting for the guests. She wasn't down long, she was always ready to make you feel special. A life well lived, and we will always remember both your parents ! They were a wonderful force ! And my husband and I are better people for having known them both........... with love, Bobbie and Bob !

Dear Jill and Judi, It is with sadness that I am writing today to send you our condolences on the passing of your beautiful Mom. We will miss that beautiful smile and her sense of humor. I only know you through Betsy's talk about "my girls". Sincere condolences to both of you. Betsy was a great sorority sister to me and I always felt such a special rapport with her when we visited over coffee at the end of a meeting. You could say that we "clicked" and we enjoyed each other's company. I hope you both are at peace with your Mom's passing, she was a wonderful lady, determined, with a very strong mind.
