SHERIF ELGUINDY
Sherif passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 after a short illness at the Rockyview Hospital, Calgary, Alberta while being treated for pneumonia. Sherif Elguindy was born on July 9, 1948 in Cairo, Egypt. He was the second son of Aziz Amin & Awatef (Azouz) Elguindy.
Sherif completed all of his education, including his B.Sc. in Physical Education in Cairo, Egypt.
He proudly served his mandatory five year military service in the Egyptian Air Force in the capacity of Sergeant In Charge of coding and decoding top secret messages. Once his military service was completed, he was offered and accepted a position as Manager, Recreation at the Abu Dhabi Hilton where he stayed for over one year and during that time applied for and was granted immigration to Canada in 1977. His mother and two brothers, Emad & Gamal Elguindy were already living in Calgary, Alberta, so that is where he decided to live and never left.
On his second day in Calgary he was offered a job at the Calgary Convention Centre and was never without a job after that. Sherif soon transferred to Security at the Glenbow Musem where he became the Supervisor, of 34 staff and warm memories always remained with him of his time there. Sherif always loved a challenge and gave 100% whether it was in his work or in his relationship with family and friends. Anyone who was privileged to know Sherif and have him as a friend was truly blessed.
Sherif met Vivian Lee Marsh who was the Assistant to the Director of the Glenbow Museum and it was love at first sight and they were married July 3, 1988 at her parents’ home in Sedgewick, Alberta and recently celebrated their 31st Anniversary.
Sherif was a gifted athlete who loved to play and watch soccer, especially the English Barclay’s League, loyal to the Calgary Flames and was a Life Bridge Master. He loved to cook and entertain and was known as a generous and attentive host. Because of his loving and open nature, children and animals were always drawn to him and he loved them all.
Sherif will be lovingly remember by his wife, Vivian Lee Marsh of Calgary; brothers, Emad (Irene) and Gamal Elguindy, both of Ontario; Nephew, Aziz Elguindy; Sister-in-law, Debra (Marsh) Pressley-Anderson (Raymond), Cody (Sarah) Anderson, Brett Anderson & Amber Pressley; Sister-in-law, Valetta (Marsh) Tym (Dale), Tara (Tym) Sitter, Renee (Tym) Hewitt (Jayden) & Chelsea (Tym) Housch (Justin); Brother-in-law, Dr. Glyn Marsh (Rachel), Dr. Glyn Marsh Jr.(Stephanie), Dr. Lauri (Marsh) Larson (Jerry) & Nicolas Marsh and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Funeral Service for Sherif Elguindy will be held Wednesday, November 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Merna Seventh-Day Adventist Cemetery in Sedgewick, Alberta. Lunch will follow.
