Edward Frank Eberts

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Frank Eberts announce his peaceful passing on August 24, 2020 at the age of 85 years. Ed was predeceased by his parents Katherine and John, siblings Jacob and Irene, and his son David. Ed will be remembered fondly by his wife of 60 years, Luce; and by their children, Mark and his children Chantel (Jason) and their daughters Chanelle and Kira, Melissa Bocian (John) and their children Rowan and Cambria; Joseph (Meagan) and their children Weston and Blaise, David’s children April (Justin) and their daughters Lennox and Rylee, Morgan (Meagan) and their sons Jayden and Caleb; Debra and her children Jerrod (Melissa) and their children Kenzee, Zaeden, Tenley and Ryder, Nadine Seims (Robin) and their daughter Charleigh, Alexandra (Jared) and their son Roman, Jessie (Troy) and John; Eddy and his children Richelle, Nicholas and Hannah; Dominique McMillan (Dallas) and their children Mackenzie, Taggart (Caitlin) and Cameron; and numerous well loved nieces, nephews and treasured friends.

Ed was born on April 27, 1935 in Chamberlain, Saskatchewan. He stayed close to home all his life. He was a farmer, a woodworker, a photographer and a private pilot. In 1960 he married his sweetheart Marie Jacqueline Luce Polard and loved her deeply. Together they had 5 children and in 1972 welcomed three sisters that needed a family into their home Maxine, Karen and Virginia. Throughout their lives Ed and Luce opened their home to many foster children.

He was a devout Catholic who was heavily involved in the community, volunteering his time through the church, a Chamberlain town Councillor and was always willing to help someone in need. His children, grandchildren, and friends always knew that help was only a holler away.

He taught us kindness, patience and how to select a good hammer. He would test all the baked goods, especially pies, by having a piece first just to make sure they were “safe enough for us to eat”. He was honest, fiercely loyal and valued integrity over everything. He walked at a fast pace, taking large strides and has left some very large shoes to fill.

Private Funeral Mass will be held in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Holdfast, Saskatchewan, on Saturday August 29, 2020. Private family interment in Chamberlain Cemetery, Chamberlain, Saskatchewan.

In lieu of flowers (although Ed took every chance to give flowers to his sweetheart) please make a donation in his name to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan (Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301-2550 12th Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4P 3X1).

To aunty Luce, cousins Mark, Debra, Eddie, Dominique, Maxine, Karen and Virginia, your partners and children and grandchildren my heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Ed was a favourite uncle of mine and is remembered with great fondness by my children also. There were years when Ed and Luce would come to the coast and we were fortunate enough to have them spend time each visit at our home, those times were good, they were fun and they are treasured memories. Ed and Luce always made a home come alive with laughter and they were always helpful. I have a shelf in my kitchen Ed put up all the while Luce rolling her eyes and wise cracking about how he took so much time measuring remeasuring and rechecking. I have a full size upright freezer they insisted on moving when they realized I needed it moved, it’s no problem they insisted. I have a beautiful old oak desk that I bought on an outing with Ed. I also used his old age discount to purchase it. To move it into the selected bedroom Ed measure and remeasured, it was decided it needed to be taken through the kitchen for straight line access into the bedroom and the kitchen and bedroom door needed to be taken off so we did. Years later I needed to move the desk and I laughed out loud when I simply turned the desk on it’s side and pushed it easily through each doorway, all doors in place. My favourite though was Ed telling us his “why you don’t wear soft pants when working in your workshop”, if you know the story you are laughing now. I am sad now because of his passing but if that is the cost of the love and memories I will pay it. How fortunate I was to call him uncle and have him in my life. Charleen

Uncle Edd was so special to our family. every moment spent with him or talking to him on the phone . Was always filled with laughter and great conversation . He was one of the kindest and most generous of persons. He always made me feel like a special niece, Even though he had so many! I was blessed to know him and have him as an uncle. I will treasure his memory always. My family felt terrible not making It to Saskatchewan for his funeral. I know if the world were covid free, there would Not be be a venue big enough for all the people . That would want to come and honour him. I pray that Aunty Luce and all there children and grandkid’s sorrow is lessened by the happy memories they shared with him. Our family sends there deepest sympathies and condolences. I cracked open a Guinness in honour of Uncle Edd, a smile on my face as I remember the last one we shared together. On a hot day in North Battleford, at our last Polard family reunion. To long ago, but seems like yesterday. I can still remember our conversation. I also remember wishing we had lived closer, as I could imagine spending more time with him. Second hand shopping for woodwork magazines and old house hardware. Plus more long conversations with a Guinness in hand! To you Uncle Edd! So blessed you were part of our lives!
