DUNCALFE, Karen Barbara
June 27, 1958- July 3, 2016
Karen Barbara Bates was born in New Liskeard, Ontario on June 27, 1958. She passed away peacefully at the Didsbury Hospital after a hard fought battle with cancer. Karen was born to Stan and Bella Bates and was the youngest of three girls. Her family moved to Carstairs on July 9, 1971 where Karen later graduated from Hugh Sutherland School. It was in grade twelve that she met the love of her life, Rod Duncalfe. After graduation, Karen attended Mount Royal College where she received her Law and Office Degree. Rod and Karen were married on September 2, 1978. Karen made the most important decision of her life, to accept Christ as her personal Savior and her and Rod chose to love and serve the Lord together. Rod and Karen had three children, two girls and one boy. They found so much joy in raising their family and spending precious time together. Karen was full of energy and loved to put her heart into others. She worked at various places including the Town Office, the bank, home care and also supported Rod’s business as his bookkeeper. She created many special and lasting relationships through those years.
Karen’s love for her family was undeniable. She was a loving and supportive wife to Rod for thirty-seven years and she loved her children dearly. Karen was known as “Nana” to her thirteen grandchildren and was greatly loved by all of them. She focused much of her time and energy into each one of them. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Rod; her three children, Mer & (Tim Hooper) Owen, Gavin, Brooke, Declan, Natalie and Camden, Kim & (Roger Sayer) Jeffrey, Eva, Rhett and Brienna, Justin & (Trina Bolduc) Jude, Chael, and Seth; her loving parents, Stan and Bella Bates; her mother-in-law, Clara Duncalfe; and her two sisters, Connie (Jim Roth) and Nancy (Bernie Regner) and their families. Karen was also dearly loved by the Duncalfe family, her friends, and extended family. We are so grateful Karen is in Heaven, though she will be greatly missed by those of us left behind!
