Edith Marion Dennard, born in 1912 in Lethbridge to Clara Isabella (née Preston) and Thomas Baird Edwards, passed away suddenly at the age of 100 on October 26 in Richmond after brief medical problems.
“Edie” attended King Edward High School in Vancouver. As a young woman she worked at Spencer's Department Store along with sister Mary to support their mother and four younger siblings. While working there she did some in-store modeling.
Edith married David Victor Dennard August 26, 1941, at St. Mark's Church, Vancouver, and the couple had two daughters. Edith epitomized the phrase "unconditional love.” Her sweet disposition, willingness to help others, ability to put people at their ease, sense of humour, humility and quiet confidence endeared Edith to all those around her. Before retirement she and Victor worked as realtors for Montreal Trust in Richmond. Soon after Victor’s passing, Edith and sister Mary moved in together in Richmond and attended St. Alban’s Anglican Church for several years before moving to Gibsons to live near brother Kenneth and sister-in-law Enid and also sister Jean and brother-in-law Bernard Sweeney.
Edith was always ready to share a fun phrase of music or poetry with a twinkle in her kind blue eyes, even as her health declined in late years. Pre-deceased by Victor (June 27, 1984), sisters Mary, Inez and Jean, and brothers Harold and Kenneth. Survived by daughters Carol Drews (Lothar) and Sandra Scherban (Larry), grandchildren Barry Drews (Val) and Tamara Wee (Justin), great grandchildren Sabrina, Jonathan, and Amelia, and nieces and nephews.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff of Rosewood Manor in Richmond for their kind and loving care of Edith for the last five years. Burial will be private. A memorial service followed by a tea will be held at St. Alban's Church, 7251 St. Alban's Rd., Richmond, on Saturday, November 24, at 11:30 am. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
