Darrell Kevin Ullrich

March 14, 1961 - April 25, 2026

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Darrell Kevin Ullrich. After a brief battle with ALS, Darrell passed away peacefully with family by his side, on April 25, 2026 at the age of 65.

Darrell leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years, Donna. Children; Dwayne Pelletier, Chrystal Hotomani (Brendan), and Joseph Longo and Father in-law Alex Shatkowski. Darrell loved all 12 of his grandchildren but he held a very special bond with Aiyanna, Braelynn, Oaklynn, and his grandson Darrell, who was named after him. He also leaves behind his sisters, Maura and Karen(Zoltan), sister in-law, Diane and lifelong friend, Colette Kitzul. As well as several nieces and nephews.

Darrell is predeceased by his son, Shawn Okeeweehow. Parents, Fred and Lena. Big brother, Wayne. Brother in-law, Duncan. Mother in-law, Doreen. Sister in-law Darlene. And best friend, Rod Burant.

Darrell was born March 14, 1961, he grew up in Regina being the youngest of 4. He loved working with his hands and would often be found in the garage tinkering around on a vehicle. Darrell was definitely a master of all trades; often telling his family, “if I can’t fix it, then it can’t be fixed!”, and he was often right. At the age of 17, Darrell had met the love of his life Donna, purely by chance. They instantly fell in love and were married July 29, 1983. Darrell and Donna were devoted foster parents for 26 years. They opened up both their hearts and their homes to over 300 children throughout the years. Apart from being an amazing father, he became an even more amazing grandfather and adored showing off his grandchildren.

While our hearts mourn this loss, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. The love he gave and the memories created will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In keeping with Darrell’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, the family will be holding a celebration of life, taking place at the Regina Eastview Community Centre, 615 6th  Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

will always remember Darrell as one of the best bosses I’ve ever had. He stood up for what was right, even when it wasn’t easy or meant putting himself in a difficult position. He had a way of lifting people up when they needed it most, or offering a calm, steady voice of reason when things felt overwhelming. He was truly one of the best men I’ve known. Darrell always had stories to share. stories you could listen to for hours. Even in the middle of a busy day, I’d find myself pausing just a little longer to hear what he had to say, because it was always worth it. He was wise, kind, and genuine in a way that’s hard to come by.What stood out most was how he treated people. No matter what he thought, he gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and took the time to connect. That’s something I will always admire and try to carry forward in my own life. He was a role model in every sense, someone I looked up to deeply. My heart goes out to his wonderful family, whom I’ve had the privilege to know and care about over the years. He was clearly a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and his impact will live on through all of you.I will always remember Darrell and keep him close in my heart.

I was saddened to hear of Darrell's grave illness and the suffering that he endured. I was further saddened to hear of his passing. I am a daughter of John Ullrich, brother to Darrell's father Fred. I never really got to know Darrell which is such a shame after reading all the stories of the wonderful man that he became. I left Regina when I married and being older than Darrell before marrying I was busy being a teenager and involved in my own little world. It is so heartwarming to hear the tributes from those who worked under him and to hear of how he and his wife Donna opened up their hearts and home to so many children who didn't have a place to call home. I have fond memories of Darrell as a toddler. He was such a cute little curly haired guy who was always happy sucking on his soother. I only had the opportunity to briefly meet up with Darrell once years later at a function in Regina. I, like others, remember being taken in with his story telling and his jovial spirit that he seemed to have retained from childhood. He left this world much too soon. He will be sorely missed by his family and those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace Darrell.
