CUMMINS, June Arlene (nee Huget)

June Arlene Cummins (nee Huget), our Mother, Grandma, and Aunt passed away unexpectedly and suddenly at the Rockyview General Hospital on Saturday, January 14, 2017. We celebrated her 83rd birthday while she was there. June was born January 8, 1934 in Red Deer.

June will be lovingly remembered by her children, Cathy Doran of Spokane, WA, Cindy Neilson, Cary Cummins (Bev) and Connie Claeys of Calgary; grandchildren, Jesse Doran of Spokane, WA, Christie Mah, Casey and Jillian (Frank) Neilson, Taylor (Chera) and Kelly Cummins all of Calgary; relatives in Red Deer, as well as nieces, nephews and sisters and brothers-in-law. She was predeceased by her parents, Petra and Harold Huget; and her son, Christopher.

Spending time at the cabin with friends and relatives was always a favourite pastime. June had a creative streak inside her and enjoyed painting and charcoal drawings in the early years of her life. She was able to crochet something special for each grandchild as they arrived. June had a wonderful gift for playing the piano by ear and was often called upon to get the party started. June also remained active in her community attending coffee gatherings with friends, sing a-longs and potluck dinners. Recently, she was active on the Social Committee as well as volunteering her time playing piano at the local Senior Residence. June enjoyed working many of the local elections as a way of keeping in touch with neighbors and friends. In her later years, she enjoyed getting together with the Heritage Seniors group and was active in aqua-size at the local Acadia swimming pool. As a last note, we know June is surely grateful to be missing the impending inauguration south of the border! LOL

A Celebration of June's Life will be held at 8535 Bonaventure Drive SE, Calgary, AB on Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm in the Banquet Room on the 3rd Floor.
Someone will be in the foyer to let you in to the building until 2:20 pm!!!

In lieu of flowers donations would be gratefully accepted at the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Calgary, 5211 - 4 Street NE, Calgary, AB, T2K 6J5.

We wish to extend deepest sympathy to the family of June Cummins. I had many wonderful times with June when we both resided in California. During our times together I found out just how deeply she cared for her children and grandchildren. I am going to miss my periodic coffee meetings with her as well as phone visits.

June was our neighbour and friend in the Sierras of Heritage condo, and we appreciated her friendliness and admired her positive and energetic attitude. Her love of music and her wonderful musical gift was enjoyed by many, and she enthusiastically agreed to be my pianist for our monthly condo sing-alongs, and was so helpful to me. She will be missed!

Cathy, Cindy, Cary, Connie and Families Please accept our sympathies in the loss of your mom. I'm sure she will be sorely missed. I found your mom's obit very insightful. I don't know much about Auntie Pete's family but I know she was very crafty and the Hugets were certainly blessed with creativity, particularly when it comes to music. Several of them played instruments by ear and a couple of them even taught themselves to read music. If I'm not mistaken, June passed that gift along to some of you kids. Art is also something they excel at. . . June was very good at keeping in touch with mom and also Uncle Clarence and Aunt Beth. Mom always enjoyed her visits and phone calls, particularly in the last few years. I think June enjoyed them too. I've started a FB page called the Huget Connection and have posted your mom's obit on it in hopes of letting the family know. I was saddened to read of Junes' sudden passing. We both grew up in Red Deer, the city we both love. We saw each other at AGMs' and at Red Deer Composite High School reunions every five years. She will be so missed at this year's reunion in August. She always phoned me in summer when she was at her beloved cabin, and we had a wonderful phone visit, talking about memories of growing up in Red Deer. Loved her wacky sense of humour. She will be missed .

Just received the sad news of June's passing this AM and wish to extend sincere condolences to June's loved ones. June was a wonderful friend to me. We met many years ago through The Heritage Seniors and for the past while she and I attended their monthly lunches and wist nights together. I very much enjoyed being with June. She was always such fun, so lively, interesting and candid in sharing her opinions. I loved her refreshing wit and sense of humour. June and I spent hours and hours on the phone planning on how we were going to get the world straightened out Seems we didn't quite get finished in time, but I sure had to laugh at the comment in her obituary about how grateful she'd be that she'd miss the inauguration south of the border. That was so June. RIP dear dear friend.
