Eliezer Cohen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eliezer Cohen. He will be remembered by his siblings, Lea Cohen (Arie), Rachel Regev (Zion), Miriam Zlight , Ahuva Meir (Jacob) and sister-in-law Tova; his children Haim Cohen (Irene), Moshe Cohen, Nurit “Nikki” Ferguson; as well as his grandchildren, Jesse, Aaron and Leora. He was predeceased by his brother Mordechai, sister Mazel and his brother-in-law Joseph Zlight. Eli was born in Israel and moved to Canada with his young family in pursuit of a better life. He had a very colorful personality and loved to work with his hands. Eli found joy in socializing and spent many hours dancing, laughing and sharing stories with his numerous friends. We wish to thank all those who supported Eli during his final days. Special thanks to Helga Porter, Meir Stern, Dr. U. Lauf and the staff and volunteers at Agapé Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. For those wishing, a donation in memory of Eli may be made to Agapé Hospice.

Haim, Oi-man found your father's obituary, cut it out and insisted I take it to work today to write you. What a handsome man your father was in his photo. I also know that he was a great father to you, as you were a great son to him and that your loss is personal and deep. I have a great memory of having an traditional style Pesach with your father when our kids were young, when we hit each other with celery stalks! I think the tradition was to remind of the lashes given the Jews by their Egyptians taskmasters before Moshe, the name also chosen for your brother, took us from slavery. So while this is a time of bitter sadness for you, I hope you will also remember the fun and good times you had with your father. Michael and Oi-man Birnbaum

To Eli's Family & Friends, Eli will be greatly missed at the Social Dance Club Calgary dances which are held in the Kerby Centre Gym. Haim Eli was a man of integrity who deeply valved family and friends. I enjoyed working with him and could guarantee that I would hear a story or two and share a laugh when he was around. He also talked about how he was a lucky man to have a wonderful family. Thinking of you Armand & Pat
