Marcia, 74, died on January 12, 2023, at Surrey Memorial Hospital from a cardiac event after 10 weeks of hospital care to combat pneumonia and several persistent infections.
She was born on June 18, 1948, in Vancouver, to James and Francis Taylor. She grew up in the neighbour-friendly area on Mackie Street in the Little Mountain area and she attended Van Horne Elementary School and Eric Hamber High School.
Shortly after graduating, she began working for B.C. Tel in Vancouver, but quickly got the “wandering urge” and on a whim, applied for a temporary position at the Kamloops branch of B. C. Tel, believing it would be a welcome change within the same company.
Once settled in Kamloops, her competitive nature and social skills led her to join a bustling contract bridge group where she happened across her future husband of more than 50 years. Richard was a recent transplant from Toronto and as serendipitous as this was, they were happily joined together in a bridge and life partnership that lasted more than 50 years. The pair then decided to move to Vancouver where Marcia became a full-time mom raising a family.
Despite the time and satisfying effort of raising family, Marcia had the bridge skills and found the time to win the Canadian Women’s Team Championship in 2006, and represented Canada at the World’s Championship at Verona, Italy in 2007. She developed many friendships at the bridge table and in the very active Vancouver bridge social scene that have endured throughout the years.
Marsha (Auntie Marcie), like her mom Fran, loved hosting dinners for birthdays and holidays. Although these opportunities were less frequent in recent years, Warren and Wesley were more than happy step up to lend their culinary skills and loved to pitch in as the occasions arrived. These delicious meals were followed by many fun-filled but competitive table board games (Trivial Pursuit, Time’s Up, Pictionary, etc.). Marcia loved this family activity and everyone always went home a winner.
Marcia (predeceased by her father and mother, Jim and Fran, and sister Barb) leaves behind her loving family who will miss her dearly - husband Richard, children Warren and Wesley, granddaughter Trinity (Toronto), brother Thomas (Donna), nephew Clinton and brother-in-law Bruce, nieces Koreen, Monica (Mike) and Stephanie (Shane - Calgary), sister-in-law Gail (Gunnar - Kamloops) and as well as her “best friend” who knew her from those earliest Vancouver school days up to the very end, Lynda Gillies (Al - Abbotsford). Marcia will be missed.
At her request, a simple private remembrance will be held later.
