Charles Wayne Hutchinson (known as Wayne) died January 23, 2026 aged 92 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Vancouver, April 10, 1933 to Cecil E and Grace W. Hutchinson and was raised in Port Moody. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Jacqueline Larsen also first wife Doreen.
After Wayne’s father and step mother moved to California, he became homeless so joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1952. After fifteen years with the RCAF, he was employed by Canadian Pacific Airlines as an aircraft mechanic. He retired after 26 years with the company.
In 1982 Wayne married Dorothy Nyman – he impressed her with his T-shirt on which was written, “Marry Me and Fly Free”. He was true to his word. They did a lot of travelling over the years to most parts of world. In later years, cruising became their mode of transport to far away places. Wayne and Dorothy were keen bridge players. They also enjoyed playing badminton and going for walks.
Wayne is survived by his wife Dorothy, step-daughter Fran, son Gary (Jennifer) and other family in the lower mainland and the Yukon.
Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph’s Parish (20676 Fraser Highway, Langley BC) on Thursday, February 12 at 11am followed by interment at the Gardens of Gethsemani (15800 - 32nd Ave. Surrey, BC) at 1:00pm
