Catherine “Cathie” Lowden

Catherine “Cathie” Lowden passed away on Monday, December 8th, 2025, at the age of 66. Passionate horsewoman, animal lover, talented hat lady, loving aunt, sister-in-law and friend.

Cathie was born on August 20th, 1959, to Jack and Dot Lowden, she grew up in Surrey, British Columbia then moved with her family to Langley. After completing high school, Cathie’s passion took her to Maryland, USA where she completed her Horse Master Certificate in 1977 at Potomac Horse Center in North Potomac. The following year in 1978, she obtained her Horse Instructor Certification at the Potomac Horse Center.

Following an illness in the family, Cathie returned to British Columbia and found a tack store in Cloverdale that was hiring, Stampede Tack and Western Wear. Cathie had a very successful career with Stampede Tack, celebrating 35 years of dedicated service this past August. At Stampede Tack and Western Wear, Cathie shared her equine knowledge with many customers who would eventually become her friends throughout the years. Cathie was known to many because of her talent in shaping, repairing and restoring hats. On Sundays, Cathie also worked at the Otter Co-op in Aldergrove, where she could be found serving customers with a friendly smile and familiar face.

Cathie enjoyed spending her spare time at the barn with her horse Libby and barn family, being with her loved ones, or cuddling with her precious cats.

Predeceased by her parents, eldest sister Wendye, older brothers Gerald “Gerry” and Robert “Bob” Lowden. Cathie is survived by her nephew Robbie (Drew), niece Rachaelle (Nick), sister-in-laws Sharon and Victoria “Vickie”, her horse Libby, and her cats.

Service will be held at Alternatives Funeral Home on Sunday, December 21st, 2025, at 10am.
