Carole Marion McDermott

It is with deep sadness that Carole’s family announce her passing on Saturday, August 29, 2026 after a courageous and long journey with breast cancer.

Carole was born in 1946 in Leeds, Great Britain. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Connie, brother Rick and husband Ken. She is lovingly remembered by her sons Curtis (Mandy) and Jeffery More, all of Regina, sister Shirley Kirkley (Al) of Fort Qu’Appelle, brother Randy Dahlman (Ingrid) of Calgary, sister in law Eleanor Dahlman, of Wolseley, grandson Teekin, niece Bianca and nephews Chris (Melanie), Michael and Fletcher (Erin).

Carole immigrated to Canada with her mother in the fall of 1946. Her father had previously returned to Canada after the end of WWII having served with the British Air Force. Carole grew up on a farm south of Wolseley and attended both elementary and high school in Wolseley. After attaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Distinction), Carole was employed by the Regina Board of Education for 25 years, realizing her passion for teaching. She also taught as an exchange teacher in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Throughout her life Carole displayed a wonderful sense of humour, positivism, adventure and curiosity. She was a global traveller and loved to connect with people from many cultures and diverse backgrounds throughout the world. Carole was a fun, thoughtful and loyal mother, grandmother and friend. She spent many joyous and precious moments with her grandson Teekin.

Carole thanks her family and many friends for their prayers, visits, support and comfort. Her family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, Regina, Saskatchewan. As well, thank you to the SHA Palliative Care Unit, Regina.

A private memorial and graveside service will be held at a later date.

Messages of Condolence

Sue and I were fortunate enough to meet Carole on one of her many global adventures when we went on a tour of India and Nepal.Carole was such a positive, charismatic and enthusiastic traveller and so easy to get along with. We struck up a firm friendship on that holiday and have been very close friends for the past 17 years. We were very pleased to visit her on "home territory" in 2023 when she welcomed us to her lovely apartment in Fort Qu'Appelle, showing us the beauty of her Province and a neighbouring National Park.Every time we spoke to Carole it was clear that she cared deeply for others, and that family and friends meant everything to her. She was the most selfless person we've ever met.She faced her own health challenges with courage and determination but also a down to earth sense of reality, but we never heard her complain as she always saw the positives in every situation.We feel deeply honoured to have been her friend. She truly was a force of nature, one in a million and we will miss her terribly.We send our sincere and heartfelt condolences to her entire family at this very sad time.

We are so sorry for your loss. Although we didn’t have the opportunity to see her very often, we will always remember the kindness she showed us and especially the lovely gifts she would send Luna.We loved how she shared her love of books with Luna. My deepest sympathy to Carole’s family. I taught with Carole 56 years ago. We lost contact for a few years but when we met up again it was as though we had never been apart. She was fun loving, caring and a true friend. I will miss our birthday celebrations each year along with Corinne and Wendy. She put up such a brave fight!

My dear friend Carole is gone. We met in Grade One, graduated together, then went off to education, careers, partners and families. We reacquainted 50 years later, planning our grad reunion. Carole was a dynamo, sharing her energy with her family, students and friends. You wanted to be around her, near her and be part of the vibrations of her spirit. What adventures await her we cannot know, but she will enrich that world beyond us. We are poorer in her absence.

Carole was one of life’s rare gifts - a friend found far from home, in the heat and dust of Jordan and Egypt back in 2008 who stayed close across oceans and years. Our friendship grew through every chapter: visits to the UK, or to Regina, all the messages, calls and laughter in between. Distance never dimmed her kindness, her humour or her warmth. I will carry her spirit with me always, grateful for every smile, every memory and every moment we shared

I also taught with Carole 56 years ago at St. Anne’s. She was so dedicated to teaching. That’s also the time when four of us became not just colleagues, but friends, Penny, Wendy, Carole and I.When I lost my husband 20 years ago Carole came from Lethbridge and was a great comfort to me. I will always consider her one of my closest and dearest friends. The four of us also reignited our friendship around that time and continued to celebrate birthdays and Christmas get togethers. Now that Carole has passed away it’s only Penny and I left. Wendy passed away in 2019. We will continue these traditions in memory of our beloved friends. Carole faced her health issues with such courage and bravery. She never failed to have a smile on her face despite what she was going through. I will cherish my time spent with her. We will miss you Carole.
