Carole Joyce Waddell (nee Osler)
May 6th,1943-January 3rd, 2026
It is with great sadness we share the passing of our beautiful Mother, Carole Waddell.
After a 2-year courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, ALS, Mom decided it was time for a rest.
Born in Regina, Sask to parents Ralph and Dorothy Osler, Carole was the oldest of 4 siblings, Norman, Janice and Ricky. Carole developed a passion for travel, photography and writing at an early age, all of which would follow her thru the rest of her life.
Early on she became a single parent to 4 children. As with everything in her life she took on the challenges with full commitment.
She spent many years in Langley, raising kids and starting what would be a 28 year career with BC Tel.
In 1981 she decided a change was needed. A new chapter started in Campbell River. Once on the island Carole discovered a love for hiking, skiing, defending the environment and her amazing gardens. From protesting to save Strathcona Park to many wilderness areas she was loving the new life she found there.
When retirement came it also brought more changes. Carole moved to her beautiful home on Cortez Island. Now was the time for travel, Portugal (5x), New Zealand, Scotland, England, Ireland, U.K., Russia, Cross Canada and so many more. Carole loved life, loved travel and especially loved her family and friends.
In March of 2024, after months of issues and Doctors and test she was diagnosed with ALS. A truly horrible, cruel disease. Always the optimist one of the first things she said was “ I have been lucky and have had a great life”.
January 3rd, 2026 after living 2.5 years with ALS she was ready for a rest. We love her and miss her so much but hope she is again climbing those mountains and saving the planet.
Carole is survived by daughter Bunny (Graham), sons, Bruce, Michael ( Wendy), & Chris. Grandkids: Todd, Scott (Sam) Becca ( Andrew),Tyler (April),Sarah (Ayslynn), Austin (Karina)Matthew, Great-Grandkids: Tarra & Lexus Lomas, Sadie & Clara Hargreaves, Delaney & Colter Waddell, Brother Norman, Sister Janice ( Dave) and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Also many, many wonderful friends.
Carole was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Dorothy Osler, brother Ricky, Grandson Zack and granddaughter Kayla.
There will be a Celebration of Carole in the spring. In Liew of flowers please donate to the ALS Society of BC. Their support thru Mom’s whole journey was amazing and helped make her life as easy and comfortable as it could be. We will also be doing the Move to Cure ALS in her memory in the late spring.
Mom, so deeply love, so very missed.
