February 3, 1925 – January 2, 2017

Lois Bullough (nee Douglas) passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the age of 91 years. Lois was a proud third generation Southern Alberta pioneer. She grew up around Calgary and attended Cliff Bungalow School, and later graduated from Western Canada High School. She lived in Australia for 3 years after WWII, and moved back to Calgary in 1948. She enjoyed rock hounding, walking, RV’ing, metal detecting, volunteering at St. Andrews United Church, and spending time at the cabin at Ghost Lake Village.

Lois is survived by her son, Richard James; stepson, Dave (Sandy) Bullough; granddaughters, Shannon and Sheri (Trevor); and four great grandchildren, Jaxon, Calder, Deven, and Brylie. Lois was predeceased by her husband, Ty; brother, Ken, and sister, Marguerite.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Chinook Care Center for their care and kindness to Lois.

The family will be holding private graveside prayers at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 2P5.

I'm so sorry to have missed seeing her since Xmas. We had wonderful visits while she was in hospital, loved her scripture and prayers. St. Andrew's office staff so appreciated her volunteering on Fridays. Along with her faithful companion Margaret would make us tea and bring goodies each week somehow the group grew! It was lovely community time no one wished to miss! I'm sure the family will miss her quiet presence.

Lois was a faithful member of our group at St. Andrew's that made sandwiches for the Drop-In Centre on a monthly basis. She was such a loyal and dedicated volunteer for decades, walking the short distance from her home to the church each time. We missed her when we moved to from St. Andrew's to Deer Park and Lois decided to retire. Joyce Moore

I enjoyed getting to know Lois when I worked in the office at St. Andrew's United Church. Friday afternoon's Lois and Margaret Stewart would come to help me by folding the bulletins. That by itself was wonderful but they would also bring cookies and make a pot of tea and get the staff to sit down for a lovely break. Always one of the highlights of the week. It was interesting to hear a bit about Lois' adventures in Australia as a young woman and other happenings in her life. I visited Lois this fall when she was in the palliative care unit. We chatted as we walked the halls. I'm not sure she quite remembered me at that point but it didn't matter. I am sure I am just one of many people that Lois touched during her life. Our condolences to Richard, David and Sandy and families on the passing of Lois. She and Ty were such good neighbours to my parents. They shared a mutual hobby, metal detecting. They enjoyed good chats over the phone, and tea in each others' kitchens. Lois was good enough to watch the house and take in the mail when my parents were away. She also served as their lifeline respondent for several years, and more than once shovelled snow all the way from her front door to theirs. Rest in peace.
