Elsie May Branton passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at St. Teresa Place in Calgary, Alberta. She was born to Jack and Marion Wood Shephard on December 28th, 1927 in Toronto, Ontario. She was the youngest of three. She was predeceased by her sister Doris (Jack) and brother Jack. Elsie married James in 1948 and they had two children, Derek and Corrie. She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted daughter Corrie and her grandchildren, Elisha (Emmanuel), Kris, Kailey (Tyler), Peter (Larryssa) and four great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her sisters-in-law Joan (Ron) and Maureen (Paul) and her late brother-in-law Stan (Myra). She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
Elsie managed a curling club for over 25 years. She enjoyed knitting/sowing, baking and playing cards. She led an active lifestyle, walking and swimming and loved animals. Elsie was a faithful and devoted Christian. Most of all, Elsie enjoyed her time with family and friends, touching many throughout her life with her thoughtful, loving and accepting spirit.
Elsie had many dear friends. She was drawn to people like bees to honey and cherished those friendships to the end. Her wonderful sense of humor, adventurous spirit and a true love of life will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Elsie’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at St. Francis Anglican Church, 132 Albert St. SE, Airdrie at 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Elsie’s life will also be held in Toronto at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elsie’s memory to the Make a wish foundation, https://makeawishsa.ca/donate or to a charity of one’s choice.
