James Best

Family and Friends are saddened to announce the passing of James Garnet Best on October 8th, 2024.  Jim lost his life to a health complication after a long brave journey recovering from a treatment for a disease called VEXAS.

Jim’s daughter, Niki, and wife, Cari, would like to recognize and thank the Nurses and Doctors from Vancouver General Hospital who cared for Jim during his outpatient treatment at the BMT unit and during his hospital stays during the last fourteen months.

We are grateful to the stem cell donor who gave Jim the chance to rid his body of VEXAS and to all the Blood Donors out there, you truly do make a difference. Thank you.

Jim loved life, his family and embraced friendships and connections through his travel, work, soccer, fishing and his volunteer work with Special Olympics Soccer.

Cari and Niki sincerely appreciate the support of their family and friends during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask you to consider making a donation in memory of Jim to one of the following organisations (links are below). Your support will honour his life and support a cause that was meaningful to him.

Special Olympics BC

The Bone Marrow Transplant Program of BC (VGH)

Canadian Blood Services
