Pauline Bergen

Bergen, Pauline went to be with her Lord June 1, 2014 at the age of 87. Thank you to all the staff at the Valhaven Home in Abbotsford who gave her wonderful loving care. She was predeceased by her father John Stobbe, mother Margaret, stepmother Susie, 10 siblings, 4 sister in-laws, baby son Dennis, and husband Henry.

Pauline was born in Borden Saskatchewan and moved to BC at the age of 3. She married Henry Bergen in 1948 and they raised 4 children. Mom loved photography and decorating her many albums; each child had a special album from birth to the present. She loved to garden and is remembered for her vegetable garden as well as her beautiful roses. She loved to sing and play the Omnicord; mom and dad were both involved in choirs and orchestras for many years. Mom loved to travel; they visited Phil and Lydia in Japan, Dave and Tena Wiebe in Bolivia and made many road trips throughout BC to visit relatives.

She is lovingly remembered by her 4 children: Lydia Hamm (Phil), Gerald Bergen (Rose), Janice Slee (Dave), Mel Bergen (Jean); 4 grandsons: Chris (Kim), Wayne, Kevin (Patty) Hamm, and Caleb Bergen; 4 great grandchildren: Faith, Peter, Rebekah, Allegra Hamm; 7 siblings, 2 foster sisters, 12 in-laws, and a host of wonderful nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins.

A Memorial service and reception will be held on June 9, Central Heights Church in Abbotsford, at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to MB Missions.

Our condolences to you, Phil and Lydia and family. You have so many memories to cherish I'm sure and the reminder that you will one day see her perhaps brings joy even as you grieve. I remember Mrs Bergen as being a wonderful warm and gracious hostess. Beautiful smile and love for people. So wonderful to know we will all see her again in Glory!

To Lydia, Gerald, Janice, Melvin, and families. When I think of Aunt Pauline I see her welcoming smile, and cheerful greeting. She always made me feel so welcome. It didn't matter to her who of my friends I brought with me, they were always welcomed as well. Doing crafts, playing games or taking us around the country side was always fun. One summer we went to the Bridal falls for a picnic. So when I think of your parents I have so many wonderful memories, I just can't name them all. Her love for her Lord was always visible. Dear Lydia and Phil, May the Lord's peace and comfort fill your hearts and those of your family as well as you celebrate and also mourn the passing of Pauline. I'm so happy that you (Lydia) were able to come out a few weeks ago to be with her. I hope to see you on Monday, but I imagine the church will be filled. I have some very good memories of your mother although I didn't know her real well as we always lived far apart. i remember visiting your parents with my family, what fun we had.It is as cousin Barbara said our circle of aunts and uncles gets smaller all the time. To the Bergen family: We have such fond memories of your mom at the East Aldergrove church, now Ross Rd. Community Ch. She was such an encourager. I can still hear you singing as a family. (Your mother passed away on our anniversary.) May you find comfort in knowing she finished the race well, and that you'll see her again.
