Donavon Bamford of Regina Saskatchewan passed away peacefully with his children by his side after a long battle with Louis Body Dementia.
He is survived by his children Michael, Carol, and Brenda, his grandchildren Blake (Shianne) and Mikayla (Tim), and his great-grandchildren Peter, Grayson, and Veronica. Don is also survived by his brother Robert (Phyllis) and sister Delores and brother in law Garry Nicol.
He was pre-deceased by his wife of 65 years, Isabel (nee Nicol) and his beloved son Gregg.
Don was born to Percy and Inez Bamford in Alameda SK and grew up in Regina with his six siblings, Ken, Jack, Gladys, Delores, Dale and Bob.
He married at 18, moved to Calgary soon after and did not return to Saskatchewan until 2012.
Don was a very social guy with a large extended family and many friends. He had a great sense of humour and loved a good laugh. He had many interests but once he discovered golf, he found his passion.
He was an excellent golfer and won many awards and tournaments. He was known for being a stickler for the rules and a true gentleman on the course. When he couldn’t be on the course, he was an avid watcher of the major matches and was constantly trying to improve his technique through watching those he admired most and hours of practice
He created two related businesses, both an indoor golf experience and making and repairing custom clubs so it’s fair to say that golf was a huge part of his life. He played into his 80’s and could still outplay many a younger man. He loved to share his knowledge of the game and to help his fellow players.
Above all, Don was also a family man and was a devoted grandfather. We all have many wonderful memories of childhood vacations and special things he did with and for us that we will treasure going forward. He will be missed by all who knew him.
