It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Marie Baker (nee Cromarty). Ruth passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the age of 74. Ruth is lovingly remembered by her lifelong partner, Jim Tennant, whom she built and shared her home and life with. She also leaves behind her beloved children, Lara Baker, Monique (Dave) Hildebrand; her grandson, Brandon Baker; and son-in-law, Terry Campbell. She is also survived by her siblings, Joyce (Harry), Jim (Fay), Dale (Arlene), Terry (Diane) and Roy (Olga); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Bert and Hazel Cromarty.
Ruth was born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan and later moved to Crossfield, Alberta where she raised her family and started her journey with her partner Jim. Ruth had a special place in her heart for all of those around her, you could always find her baking in the kitchen or playing in her garden, both activities she enjoyed doing until the end. Ruth loved her family very much, she taught her girls to be hard working, strong, caring women. Her grandson, Brandon, was the light of her life, she was always there for him and cared for him deeply. Ruth was always quick to give a hug and/or set you straight – whichever was needed at the time, a value that was cherished by those closest to her. The highlight of Ruth’s week was always Sunday dinner with her family – a tradition that has created great memories for her loved ones to share.
Ruth showed nothing but grace, dignity and strength during her final years as she continued to face anything that came her way. The family will hold a Private Graveside Service and a Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, https://www.cancer.ca or the Canadian Lung Association, https://www.lung.ca.
