BAILEY, David Bertram
January 1, 1933 – May 16, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved father/Boppa, Dave Bailey. Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep in the hospital in Calgary, Alberta on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.
David was the son of James (Herb) Albert Bailey and Gladys Maud Jackson in Cornwall, ON. After graduating from Queens University with his Engineering degree, Dad moved to Montreal for work, where he met and married our mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Mary Kiss. They were married for ten years before separating. Dad’s world revolved around his daughters, and when Lydia moved to Alberta in 1989, he followed her to be near her and his grandchildren. For many years, he spent winter months in California with Julia. He had the best of both worlds.
One of Dad’s hobbies was to pick up trash in Airdrie, earning him the praise of both the City of Airdrie, and its populace. Another hobby Dad had was putting together the Bailey family tree. He spent 10 years criss-crossing the continent, meeting over 500 descendants of the Bailey ancestor who came from Ireland in 1834. He put all this information into a book, which will be treasured for generations to come. For those who knew him, each day he was “Older and Wiser”.
He will be sadly missed by daughters, Lydia Helen Hill (Matthew) and Julia Nancy Bailey; granddaughters, Amanda Elizabeth Jacqueline Hill (Roddy) and Heidi Brigid Hill (Matt); grandson, Terry David Hill; and great grandson, Kiran Matthew Roop Jaglal. Dad was predeceased by his siblings, Joan Grace Cox, Ruth Mary Fourney, and Alan Westlake Bailey.
He will be missed. Dad did not want a funeral, and hoped that if anyone wanted to donate in his name, that they do so to his charity of choice, the War Amps. Lydia and Julia also ask that a glass be raised in his name on Father’s Day.
Rest in peace, Dad.
