It is with deep sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Mom / Granni. Predeceased by husband Joseph and son William. Marie is survived by sons Mike (Cheryl 1), Dick (Donna), Dan (Cheryl 2), Tim (Traci), Patrick (Cheryl 3) as well as 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was born the middle child of a large family of 8 children and lived her entire life in Calgary. Family was the greatest joy in her life and she was blessed to have a large and extended family that included many friends that she treated as family. Those who knew her will always treasure her sharp, quick wit along with her enjoyment of engaging in conversation and story telling. Marie had recently lost much of her sight and was less mobile but still found ways to make new friends and help others. She had been volunteering her time to teach new Canadians conversational English, although not all of her words were from a dictionary such as, “jim-dandy”. Humour was a big part of Marie’s life and all her sons have been blessed with the same sense of humour, she made most people laugh no matter what the circumstance and enjoyed a good laugh herself. Over the years Marie worked for CFCN, Grace Hospital, and the Calgary Board of Education. Marie’s hobbies included knitting, crocheting, painting, paper tole, ceramics, puzzle building, playing cards and word and number puzzles. Marie’s family is grateful to all the Homecare workers and the Aspen Lodge staff for taking such great care of her. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Southwood United Church, 10690 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary on Saturday November 9th, 2013 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marie’s memory may be made to the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind), 15 Colonel Baker Place NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 4Z3.
