Douglas Harry Arkell

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Douglas Harry Arkell, on Thursday, June 4, 2020 in Calgary, AB, at the age of 76.

Doug is lovingly remembered by his children, Darcy (David), Dwayne (Marnie); wife, Suzanne; grandchildren, Shawna, Jessie, Jenna and Nathan; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Lorraine; and nephews, David and Richard. Doug was predeceased by his wife, Marie; and his parents, Douglas and Mary Arkell.

Doug's life was full of adventure he enjoyed hunting, fishing and to always be holding the throttle wide open on his HD. No distance was too far, or out of reach, for him in life or on his bike. The air was always clear and the horizons bright.

A colleague of Doug's from way back in the home brewing days. He happened to be riding his bike next to me one day on I-5 south between Seattle and Portland when I recognized him and honked. Doug was annoyed (putting it mildly) until he recognized me. We pulled off and chatted about the old homebrewing days. Today we found an old E-Z Cap baseball cap and my wife asked if I tought he was still around. I said that given some of his past health issues I guessed he likely wasn't. So I hunted for an obit. Doug was always one of my favorite people. I was with him when his bike was stolen while at a conference in Sacramento. He was not a happy camper that day as you could imagine. He helped host an industry conference in Banff that I remember as one of the best we ever had. Truly an adventurer! Was an honor knowing you, Doug.
