Renata Aramini (nee Ortolan), beloved wife, mother and Nonna, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 27, 2015 at Surrey Laurel Hospice in the presence of her immediate family. Renata was 72 years old.
Renata was born in 1943 in Pasiano, Pordenone, Italy, the middle daughter of Tranquillo and Angela Ortolan. At the age of 7, Renata and her family sailed across the Atlantic and settled in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Renata loved school and her dream was to become a teacher. In 1964, the young teacher married, and in 1975 the family of five moved across the country to beautiful British Columbia, settling in Langley. Over the years, Renata poured her heart into her family and into cultivating a welcoming household. With her natural charm, warmth, bright blue eyes, and contagious smile Renata easily made many friends. Renata had many talents and interests and excelled at all of them. She was a caring and dedicated teacher, amazing cook and baker, loved petit point and cross stitching, producing many beautiful masterpieces during her life, and served as secretary of the Fraser Valley Italo-Canadian club and member of the Catholic Women’s League for several years. She had a great sense of adventure and loved to travel and see the world. Whatever it was, Renata poured her heart, passion, and positive spirit into it.
Above all, Renata was a loving and devoted spouse, mother and Nonna. Even during her sudden illness and in death, she brought us all close together and touched so many with her strength and faith. Renata will always be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by her entire family and her many friends.
Renata is survived by her husband Giacomo (Jack), three loving children, James, Jeffery and Angela, and their spouses, Tanis, Angie, and Oscar, ten grandchildren, Michela, Elena, Juliana, Cristina, Oliver, Bianca, Sofia, Luca, Leo, and Lucia, and sister Alida. Renata was predeceased by her parents, older sister Maria Teresa, and brothers-in-law George and Richard.
Prayers will be held on Monday January 4 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Langley, followed by funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday January 5. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
