Antun Bakovic passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, on October 26th, 2025, at the Royal Columbian Hospital in British Columbia, at the age of 69.

Born in Croatia to parents Kata and Nedeljko Bakovic, Antun immigrated to Canada in 1977, bringing with him a strong work ethic and a generous spirit that would define his life. He began his career as a machinist in the plastics industry and quickly rose through the ranks to manage the entire factory. His leadership and technical expertise took him around the world—including to China—where he advised owners of major plastics operations. Later, his entrepreneurial drive led him to found Stable Bases, a successful business supplying table bases to restaurants across Canada and into the United States.

Though Antun was not married and had no children of his own, he was a beloved father figure to his sister Marija’s children, Kathy and Peter Rajic. He was someone who’s quiet devotion, guidance, and generosity shaped their lives in meaningful ways. His bond with Kathy, her husband Sergio, and their sons, Victor and Ivan, was especially profound. Marija’s husband Dennis also brought a stepdaughter, Amanda, and stepson, Jared, into the family, and Antun welcomed Jared’s sons, Eric and Jace, with the same warmth and kindness he extended to all.

Antun remained deeply connected to his brothers Mijo, Ivica, and Marko Bakovic, and to their families. He cherished his relationship with Mijo’s wife Ana and their daughter Gabriella Olsen, along with Gabriella’s husband Kent and their children Austin, Emily, and Nicholas. Emily’s daughter Sophia added another joyful presence to Antun’s extended family. Ivica’s wife Katica and their sons, Nedeljko-Neno and Rudolf-Rudi, were also dear to him, as were Nedeljko’s wife Andrea and their children Gabriel, Mihael, and Rafaela. Marko’s wife Dragica and their daughters, Ana-Marija and Antonia, were among the many young lives Antun nurtured with quiet affection and support. Ana-Marija, in turn, is the mother of two daughters, Vanesa and Leona, who brought him great joy.

In British Columbia, Antun formed lasting friendships with Rick Martin and Rick’s son Tyler, who became like extended family. Their companionship and support meant a great deal to him in his later years.

Known for his unwavering generosity, he gave of himself freely and without hesitation. Antun consistently put others before himself. His quiet strength, humility, and selflessness left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

A celebration of Antun’s life will be held in Edmonton, Alberta, with details to be determined at a later date.

Antun will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have been part of his life.

Antun Baković preminuo je mirno, okružen voljenom obitelji, 26. listopada 2025. godine u bolnici Royal Columbian u Britanskoj Kolumbiji, u 69. godini života.

Rođen u Hrvatskoj roditeljima Kati i Nedeljku Bakoviću, Antun je 1977. godine emigrirao u Kanadu, donoseći sa sobom snažnu radnu etiku i velikodušan duh koji će obilježiti cijeli njegov život. Karijeru je započeo kao tokar u industriji plastike, a ubrzo je napredovao do pozicije upravitelja cijele tvornice. Njegovo vodstvo i tehnička stručnost odveli su ga širom svijeta – uključujući i Kinu – gdje je savjetovao vlasnike velikih pogona za preradu plastike. Kasnije ga je poduzetnički duh naveo da osnuje Stable Bases, uspješan posao koji je opskrbljivao restorane u Kanadi i Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama postoljima za stolove.

Iako se nikada nije oženio i nije imao vlastitu djecu, Antun je bio voljena očinska figura djeci svoje sestre Marije – Kathy i Petru Rajiću. Njegova tiha predanost, mudrost i velikodušnost duboko su oblikovali njihove živote. Posebno je snažna bila njegova povezanost s Kathy, njezinim suprugom Sergiom i njihovim sinovima Victorom i Ivanom. Suprug Marije, Dennis, u obitelj je donio i pokćerku Amandu te posinka Jareda, a Antun je Jaredove sinove, Erica i Jacea, prihvatio s istom toplinom i dobrotom koju je pružao svima.

Antun je ostao duboko povezan sa svojom braćom – Mijom, Ivicom i Markom Bakovićem – i njihovim obiteljima. Njegov odnos s Mijinom suprugom Anom i njihovom kćeri Gabriellom Olsen bio mu je posebno drag, kao i s Gabriellinim suprugom Kentom i njihovom djecom Austinom, Emily i Nicholasom. Emilyina kći Sophia unijela je dodatnu radost u Antunovu proširenu obitelj. Ivicina supruga Katica i njihovi sinovi Nedeljko-Neno i Rudolf-Rudi također su mu bili vrlo dragi, kao i Nedeljkova supruga Andrea i njihova djeca Gabriel, Mihael i Rafaela. Markova supruga Dragica i njihove kćeri Ana-Marija i Antonia bile su među mnogim mladim životima koje je Antun tiho podržavao i volio. Ana-Marija je majka dviju kćeri, Vanese i Leone, koje su mu donosile veliku radost.

U Britanskoj Kolumbiji, Antun je stekao trajna prijateljstva s Rickom Martinom i njegovim sinom Tylerom, koji su mu postali poput proširene obitelji. Njihovo prijateljstvo i podrška mnogo su mu značili u kasnijim godinama života.

Poznat po svojoj nesebičnoj velikodušnosti, Antun je uvijek davao sebe drugima bez oklijevanja. Uvijek je stavljao potrebe drugih ispred svojih. Njegova tiha snaga, poniznost i nesebičnost ostavili su trajan dojam na sve koji su ga poznavali.

Proslava Antunova života održat će se u Edmontonu, Alberta, a detalji će biti objavljeni naknadno.
