ABBOTT, Roger Hugh Samuel

It is with great sadness that the family of Roger Hugh Samuel Abbott announce his passing on Saturday, March 26, 2022.
Roger was born on Nov 26th, 1961, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He grew up in St. John’s and attended PWC High School. Roger and Heather met in 1987 and were married in Sept 1992. They moved to Calgary in 1990 for a year before moving back home. After they married, they returned to Calgary in 1993 and 20 years ago moved to Airdrie. They started their family in 1994 with the birth of their son, Liam, and then in 1997 their daughter, Sarah, was born. Roger was a spectacular father and husband, actively participating in his children’s activities as they grew up.
Leaving to mourn, his loving wife, Heather and their children, Liam and Sarah. Roger and Heather were together for close to 35 years and shared many wonderful experiences.
Also leaving to mourn, are his and Heather’s siblings, Marie White (Joseph), Cyril Abbott (Pam), Shawn Abbott (Gigi), Beverly McFadyen (Paul), Lynn Snelgrove (Roger) and Jodi Mahon (Jamie); mother-in-law, Joan Mahon; sister-in-law Michelle Abbott; and brother-in-law, Reg King (Stella).
Roger was predeceased by his parents, Cyril and Betty Abbott; his sister, Madonna King; father-in-law, David Mahon; brothers-in-law, David Mahon, Everett Chaulk, Gerald White, and uncle, Reuben Abbott.
He also leaves many cherished nephews and nieces. Jason (Krista), Krista, Jonathan (Michelle), Thomas (Caitlin), Deborah, Jared (Amy), Matt (Diana), Mikala, Quinn, Aiden, Amanda, Nicole, Emily (Cody), Mitchel, Alex, Emma and Charlotte.
Roger was a special friend and mentor to Ian and Stephanie Driessen and their children. Ian and Roger worked together, taping, for most of 16 years.
Roger worked in the construction industry as a drywall taper. He was a perfectionist who took pride his work, believing in always doing his best.
Roger was well-loved and will be missed by many friends who were like family to him.
Roger was a hardworking family man, who touched the lives of many. Whether it was camping and bonfires in Burnt Timber with his buddies or around the dinner table playing cards, he was always the life of the party. A role model who inspired everyone around him. Roger was also fiercely competitive around his friends and family, leading to nothing but laughs and amazing memories.
A Celebration of Roger’s Life will take place on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 2pm MT at Bogey’s Pub in Airdrie, AB.
The Celebration of Roger’s Life, for his Newfoundland friends and family, will take place at a later date.
