Richard Abma

August 23, 1957 – January 17, 2018

Richard Abma passed away after battling cancer for well over a year.  He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Wendy (nee Van Nes); children, Nica, Karin (Aaron), Hannah (Danny), Luke and girlfriend Cheryl and Marya; and grandson, Ezekiel. Richard was born in Strathroy, Ontario. Richard later followed Wendy to Calgary in 1980. He taught Social Studies as well as a variety of other subjects at Calgary Christian School for many years, taking year-long breaks occasionally to teach English in China (1990/91), do the ultimate Social Studies field trip in Europe (2006), and to teach at the Canadian International School in Abu Dhabi (2014/15). He loved to have fun, sometimes at his own expense but preferably others’. His desire was to model and to teach people how to live as Jesus followers, realizing we are all constantly learning. The family will be pleased to greet friends and family at a Memorial Service at River Park Church, 3818 14A Street SW, Calgary, AB on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 1:00 pm.
