Irene Joyce Archibald

January 30th, 2018

Irene Joyce (Tjosvold) Archibald passed away peacefully at the age of 97 years on Tuesday, Jan.30, 2018 at AgeCare, Beverly Center, Midnapore in Calgary, Alberta.  Irene was born to Jarle and Ida Olson on May 3, 1920 in Broderick, Saskatchewan.  She was from a family of 5 brothers and 3 sisters who have all since passed away.  They lost their parents at a very early age so the 4 youngest girls were raised by older siblings.  In 1937, she married Palmer Tjosvold and they had a little girl, Ida Joan.  Palmer passed away in the spring of 1943.  Ida was just 4 years old.

On Feb. 22, 1945, Irene married Norman Archibald and they lived and farmed at Strongfield, Saskatchewan until 1965.  It was there Jim and David joined their family..  Irene and Norman moved to Saskatoon in 1965.   They became charter members at Rock of Ages Lutheran Church and Irene was involved in the ministries of the church.  She loved to sing and often sang duets with her dear friend, Curine Helde.

In Feb. 1989, they moved to Calgary and lived in Midnapore for 10 years.  Here they became involved in Peace Lutheran Church and grew to love the people there.  When Norman's health worsened, they moved to Forest Grove Care Center for 3 years and then transferred to the Beverly Center (Age Care now) in Jan. of 2002.  Norman passed away there in Dec. 2002 and Irene continued to live there til the present - 16 years.  She was lovingly cared for by so many nurses, her doctor, care-givers and volunteers.  She made many good friends there as well and would often go sing for the residents and pray with them.  She was an awesome scrabble player and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her friends would agree that she was a whiz at this game.  She played scrabble right up until last fall.

Irene is lovingly remembered by her Children:  Ida Tjosvold, Jim (Sharon) Archibald, Dave (Donna) Archibald.

Grandchildren: Greg Kushner, Jeff Kushner, Heather (Duane) Danielson, Susanne (Eric) Strom, Nancy (Wayne) Stender, Chris Archibald.

Great-grandchildren:  Tamsyn and Clyde Kushner, Jemma, Siri, Nate and Kalle Danielson, Mikenna, Noah, Kaia, Logan and Laci Strom, Breiden, Kian, Norah, Liam, Finn and Archie Stender, Shyloh, Talon and Caoimhe Archibald.

Left also to miss her are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved this beautiful woman so very much and will forever miss her.

BLESSED BE HER MEMORY!

Messages:

I met Irene when I worked at Beverly Center Midnapore. Her kind nature and always smiling face stood out. We talked about our Christian faith on several occasions. I have since moved away from Beverly and now live in U.S. but I never forgot her. She had a great impact on many lives including mine. I will dearly miss her but I know she is in a better place with God Almighty.

Irene was a great lady and Friend; and Blessing to everyone she met! She will be sorely missed! I enjoyed singing with her when I’d come to see her! My grandma came from Norway; so we had something in common; besides our Faith! Heaven has gained a Gem Of great price! She will never be forgotten ! Blessings, Love and Prayers to all the family! Linda
