Rev. William Funk

January 3rd, 2016

It is with heavy hearts that our family says goodbye, for now, to our Dad, Grandpa and Great-grandpa as he has gone to be with the Lord he loves.

Born in 1920 in Lowe Farm Manitoba, he passed peacefully into His presence January 3, 2016 at the age of 95 years after a short illness.

Predeceased by wife Martha,  granddaughter Kaelyn and two siblings, Hilda Peters and Jake.

Survived by his four children: Norm (Shirley) their two children, Lisa (Cam) Barnard and daughters Sarah and Rachel, Charles (Lyndsey) and children, Matheus and Stella.

Mel (Sharon) daughters Lara (Jeff) Breuls and children Joshua, Zachary and Elizabeth.  Kirsten (David) Bradshaw and children Emma, Sydney, Grace, Ezra and Zoe.  Sharalee (Andy) Voth and girls Chloe and Kiara.

Bruce (Jane) and children Corrie (Casey) Funk and Ryan (Jenni) and children Mahailia and Merric.

Dawn (Aaron) Vlahovich and daughter Brianna Enns and great-granddaughter Paige.

Also survived by brother Menno (Darlene) and two sisters Trudy Lehrer and Evangeline (John) Neufeld and many nieces and nephews.

Bill began his ministry with the Baptist General Conference in Selkirk, Manitoba in 1956, moved with his family to Vancouver in 1964 and pastored churches in British Columbia for many years, retiring from an associate ministry at Delbrook Baptist Church in North Vancouver in 1995 at the age of 75 years.

He never tired of life and living and was putting up Christmas lights the week prior to hospitalization.  He loved his family beyond words. He loved his Saviour with every fibre of his being to the very end.

He also leaves behind countless friends all around this province and beyond.

He was easy to love and it is so hard to let him go.

The family is so grateful to the staff at ARH’s Emergency (Dr.Shaw), CCU, medical and Palliative Care Units for the exceptional care he received these past weeks.

Memorial service to be held at: Abbotsford Baptist Church, 33651 Busby Road, Abbotsford on January 12, 2016 at 1:00 P.MAlternatives Funeral and Cremation Services in charge of arrangements.

Mel, Norm and Bruce, I am very sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He was a great man who loved the Lord and was very willing to do so many things for so many people. He was a very close friend of my Dad (Oscar) and I know you will all truly miss him. May God comfort you all at this time.

It was our pleasure and honour to have had the opportunity to know and help Pastor Funk over the years. We will miss our monthly visits with him. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. Barbara and Charmaine

I'll always thank God for the many good times of fellowship pastor Bill and I have shared. Always we ended our uplifting conversations with prayer. His enthusiasm for life and for doing the work of God--whether it was visiting a shut-in or preaching a sermon--has inspired me to give my best.

Have many fond memories of our summers together. He always had breakfast ready for us at 8 a.m., we read the Daily Bread and prayed together before we planned our fun filled days! He was a perfect example of a life devoted to loving service to the Lord and to others. Will be greatly missed but we shall meet again. Condolences to the family. Bob & Enid Phoenix

We have such wonderful memories of our years spent at Abbotsford Baptist Church (1976-81) under Pastor Bill's leadership. We spent many hours in prayer with him as we sought direction in entering the ministry. What a generous and gentle man he was. Our loss here on earth is heaven's gain. He has left and unforgettable legacy.

From the time I started as a young child at the baptist church until I was a grown woman, I'll never forget the compassionate words from this wonderful man of God. I will miss his great wisdom, his kind heart, and compassionate message of God's redemption to all. I know he is up in heaven singing with the angels right now. My condolences to his family, from mine.

Bill is remembered with great affection and appreciation. We started our friendship when he was our Pastor. We continued as servants together in ministry over that last 50+ years. He leaves a wonderful legacy of gracious, godly servanthood. May God pour His comfort and healing grace into each life of his dear family.

Always faithful. Always true. My pastor and my friend. Looking forward to you showing me around heaven in a sporty car.

He was loved dearly by our family. He will truly be missed. Our prayers go to all the family members
