Marilyn Ann Paul

March 7th, 2024

Marilyn Paul passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2024 at the age of 83. She was surrounded by
family in the Moosomin hospital where she ended her battle with leukemia. Marilyn loved God all
her life and was ready to be with Him. She is now free of pain and is resting with her Lord.

Marilyn Ann (Nichol) Paul was born December 11th, 1940 in Wadena, SK to the late Helen
(McMahon) and Hugh Nichol. She was the oldest of six children, the late Ruth Schneider and the late
Jim Nichol and surviving Glen (Carol) Nichol, sister-in-law Karen Nichol, Sharon (Paul) Schauerte and
Lorraine Nichol of Regina. Her childhood homes were in Flin Flon, MB; Midnapore, AB; and Lintlaw,
SK. Marilyn spoke fondly of her family with her keenest childhood memories playing war with cow
patties in the pasture, galloping their imaginary horses over the grass or making paper dolls cut from
the Eaton’s catalogue with her brother, Glen.

On October 27th, 1962 she married Frank Paul at Vibank, SK. They met at a community dance and
spent much of their married years attending old-time dances and fiddle fests. They raised two girls
on their farm near Moosomin, where Marilyn could enjoy nature and watch the sunrise every
morning during devotions and prayer time. She never hesitated to take a holiday to see new places,
learn about history and take pictures of the beautiful scenery. She said more than once that she had
never regretted taking time to travel.

When she was 15 yrs old, Marilyn moved to Sacred Heart Academy boarding school where she
completed high school then to Regina Teachers’ College in Regina, SK. She had a fulfilling career of
teaching. Marilyn loved her students and enjoyed much laughter with her fellow staff members,
holding those friendships close to her even after she retired. She also enjoyed visiting neighbouring
farm friends with many weekend nights spent playing cards and visiting. She was always involved in
her church and did not hesitate to help in whatever capacity was needed as she loved her church
family dearly. Writing was also a passion for Marilyn. Her words impacted many through letters,
church homilies, short stories and meaningful poems.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Frank as well as her children Pam (the late Cam) Hutchinson and
Melanie (Bill) Driedger. She leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 1 brother, 2 sisters,
many in-laws, nieces and nephews all of whom she deeply loved. She was a wonderful wife, mother,
grandparent, sister, aunt and friend who was always there when needed.

Marilyn’s funeral will be held on Saturday, May 11th at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church in Moosomin, SK. Her ashes will be buried at Cupar Cemetery near Cupar SK
the following day, Sunday, May 12th. She believed in celebrating good times and standing together
during hard times, so we invite you to come celebrate her life with us.

Frank, Pam, Melanie and families would like to express heartfelt thanks for the love and support we
have received from friends and community. Thank you to the staff at Moosomin hospital. Marilyn
constantly commented on the excellent care she received from the kind, gentle nurses every time
she was there. Thank-You also to Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services of Regina Sk for their
compassionate care, support & service at this time.

Marilyn loved her church, so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marilyn’s name to St.
Mary’s Catholic Church in Moosomin or to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Messages:

I am so sorry to hear of Marilyn’s passing. Miss Nichol taught me when I was in Grade 1. When she moved to Moosomin to marry Frank, she took the time to write to the little girl who sent her letters. She shared her joy in welcoming the girls to her family as well as other events. When I became an adult the we slowly stopped exchanging letters. We connected briefly a few times , in person, over the years. I am not sure she knew how important her letters were to that little girl. My condolences to her family and all who loved her.

My sincere condolences to all Marilyn’s family.
