James Albert Matheson

1942 - 2024

Jim (James) Albert Matheson, late of Regina Sk, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday February 23, 2024, at the age of 81.

Jim is survived by his loving wife and best friend Donna; children, Shelley, Tanya (Shawn) Harvey and their children Bailey and Dylan; Ryan (Tanya Mitchell) and their children Payton, Kane, Jeremy Goldsmith, Porcsha Theriault (Lance McLeod) and their child Abel; Faith (André) Vachon and their children, Zachary and Celine; and brother Kelly McKnight, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Jim was born in Hamilton, Ontario on November 18, 1942.  He was raised on a farm south of Frobisher by Bill and Yvonne McKnight along with their five children.  After graduating from school in Frobisher he continued his education in Moose Jaw taking the Electronic Engineering course.  Once his course was completed, he moved to Regina to work for SaskTel and met his soulmate Donna at a party of mutual friends.  They eloped on February 13, 1971 and started to build their family and life together.

Jim enjoyed listening to country music and attended the annual country music festival at Craven along with many concerts.  He loved to socialize with many friends and family over the years and cherished all the memories made.  He looked forward to weekend road trips to the farm where he helped out when needed, and spent hours fishing, curling and playing shuffle board at the local bar.  He enjoyed loading up the family in the van for many vacations to visit with family and friends, seeing the mountains, ocean and many campgrounds.

Many of his friendships developed from his many years being involved in his children’s sports.  He never missed a game, practice or social event and was always their biggest fan.  He coached all three kids in ringette, hockey, and ball - spending countless hours in rinks and at the diamonds.  Many great memories were made during bus trips and/or plane trips to tournaments all over Canada.  He continued cheering on his grandkids as they strapped on their gear.  T.V. stations were usually dialed into curling, hockey and football.

Jim worked for most of his career as a pipe inspector at Ipsco for numerous contractors where he eventually retired.  He enjoyed playing solitaire, trips to the mall to visit coffee-row, working on many projects around the yard and getting his exercise at the casino.

Jim’s biggest love was for his family.  His wife of 53 years was his best friend and companion.  He was proud of his children, grand-children and great grand child.  He always needed to know what was happening in their daily lives.

Jim is now reunited with his parents William and Yvonne McKnight; siblings Marilyn (Bill) Larrio, Marvin, Terry, Maxine (Richard) Hannah and Jack, along with numerous family and friends.

As per Jim’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. His memory may be honoured through a charitable gift to dying with dignity Canada 500-1835 Young St. Toronto, ON. M4S 1X8 dyingwithdignity.ca. Family and friends are encouraged to share their stories and memories of Jim with each other and the family.
